How can Timor-Leste strengthen the quality of its technical and vocational education and training system? 🇹🇱

UNESCO and INDMO Timor Leste brought together government institutions, TVET providers, development partners and other key stakeholders to discuss the findings of a new report on strengthening TVET quality in Timor-Leste.

The discussion explored the country’s current TVET system, including its policies, regulations and qualifications, as well as key opportunities for further improvement.

💬 Through presentations and open discussion, participants identified priority issues affecting TVET quality and considered practical actions and longer-term steps to strengthen the national system.

🤝 The workshop reaffirmed the shared commitment of UNESCO, INDMO and national stakeholders to building a more coordinated, quality-assured and responsive TVET system that supports skills development and Timor-Leste’s workforce needs.

How can students and graduates have their qualifications recognised across borders?

🇹🇱 UNESCO, in partnership with the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Culture (MESCC), convened a national consultation to support Timor-Leste’s readiness to join the UNESCO Tokyo and Global Conventions on the Recognition of higher education qualifications.

Bringing together government institutions, higher education providers, quality assurance bodies, development partners, and international experts from the Republic of Korea and Greece, the workshop provided a platform to assess Timor-Leste’s readiness, learn from international experiences, and identify priorities for improving its qualifications recognition system. 🎓

🌏 Supported by the government of the Republic of Korea, this initiative aims to expand student mobility, deepen academic cooperation, and contribute to workforce development across the Asia-Pacific region and beyond.
