How will this be carried out? With the help of volunteers (you!), we will be out in the early sun clearing up rubbish. There are many locations around Jakarta that you can join to help clean up. You can also nominate your own clean up sites through our website. If there is a particular road/area or site that you would like to nominate to clean up, get in touch so you can become the ‘Team Leader’ f
or that particular site! Team Leaders will be responsible for recruiting volunteers to help them on their site, making sure their team know what is recyclable and what isn't, as well as ensuring that the rubbish collected goes to our allocated designations for collection by our transportation sponsors. Volunteers must report to their site’s Team Leader, of which details are available on the website. We will be starting at 7am to avoid the midday heat and plan to clean for approximately two hours. Make note of your designated assembly point and start time, and arrive early to avoid being left behind. All volunteers will be given bags to separate recyclables from non-recyclables, as well as safety gloves to avoid injury from picking up sharp objects. Gloves will be collected at the end of the clean up and donated to pemulungs and rubbish men and women of Jakarta. What will happen to the rubbish we collect? All recyclable items collected on the day will be sorted by the Jakarta Green Project and sold on to a recycling factory. Proceeds made from this sale will go to the Jakarta Green Project, an NGO that provides a recycling collection service in Jakarta, giving work and a new life for children who previously lived and worked on the streets. Why should I help?
• Because this city produces more waste than it can handle.
• Because we want to educate people not to litter and about how detrimental littering can be.
• Because we're raising awareness for the amazing yet back-breaking work that our Tukang Sampah and Pemulungs do.
• Because we want to make a difference and make this a day that the public remembers and gets involved in every year.
• Because it’s a way to get the community and your friends and family together, doing something positive to make a change.
• Because we can! How do I get involved? If you, your friends, your family or even your whole office are keen to volunteer, that’s excellent! It is you that will be making a difference! Please visit www.cleanupjakartaday.org for more information. Can I sponsor this event? Yes, we need sponsors to make this happen! We are looking for sponsors who can kindly provide the following:
• T-shirts
• Gloves
• Media coverage – printed, online and television
