What does it take to turn peace into action?

At the AIESEC International Congress Indonesia 2026, UNIDO Indonesia joined hundreds of young leaders from around the world to explore this very question. Through conversations on industrial development, quality infrastructure, innovation, and partnerships, we shared how sustainable economic development can create opportunities, strengthen communities, and contribute to lasting peace.

From empowering coastal communities and MSMEs to fostering collaboration across sectors, every initiative begins with people who are willing to learn, connect, and take action. Throughout the congress, we were inspired by the energy, curiosity, and commitment of young changemakers eager to shape a better future.

Because the future of industry is not only about technology or economic growth—it is about people. And when young people are empowered with the right opportunities, skills, and partnerships, they become powerful drivers of inclusive and sustainable development.

Building momentum for industrial decarbonization in Indonesia. 🌱🏭

UNIDO, together with partners of the Global Industrial Decarbonization Hub Accelerator, convened a Multi-Stakeholder Roundtable Dialogue on Industrial Decarbonization in Jakarta to explore the establishment of an Industrial Decarbonization Hub in Indonesia.

Bringing together representatives from government, industry, financial institutions, development partners, research organizations, and civil society, the dialogue served as a platform to exchange perspectives on Indonesia’s industrial decarbonization priorities, investment opportunities, and the enabling conditions needed to accelerate the transition towards low-emission industries.

A key outcome of the discussion was the shared commitment to align existing initiatives and identify synergies that will support Indonesia’s industrial decarbonization journey. The dialogue also generated strong interest from development partners and the private sector, highlighting the value of continued collaboration in advancing a country-led Industrial Decarbonization Hub.

Through strengthened partnerships and coordinated action, UNIDO remains committed to supporting Indonesia in building a competitive, resilient, and sustainable industrial future.

Ekonomi sirkular menawarkan pendekatan yang berbeda. Alih-alih menggunakan sumber daya sekali pakai, model ini berupaya menjaga agar produk dan material tetap digunakan selama mungkin melalui perbaikan, penggunaan kembali, hingga daur ulang.

Bagi negara berkembang seperti Indonesia, ekonomi sirkular membuka peluang untuk menciptakan nilai ekonomi baru, meningkatkan efisiensi sumber daya, sekaligus mengurangi dampak terhadap lingkungan.

At the Third ASEAN Startup Policy Roundtable on Social Impact Startups and Innovation in Jakarta, Marco Kamiya moderated the session “From Service Provision to Impact and Innovation”, bringing together policymakers, innovators, entrepreneurs, and ecosystem builders from across ASEAN.

The discussion explored how social impact startups can contribute to more inclusive and sustainable development by creating jobs, improving productivity, promoting innovation, and addressing societal challenges.

As ASEAN’s innovation ecosystem continues to grow, social impact startups have an important role to play in building resilient, inclusive, and sustainable economies.

Strengthening ASEAN’s cleantech innovation ecosystem through collaboration, dialogue, and regional partnerships 🌏

Dr. Noboru Zama, Industrial Development Expert at UNIDO Headquarters, visited Jakarta on May 5-7 to participate in the Project Steering Committee Meeting and the ASEAN Climate Tech Forum hosted by the ASEAN Centre for Energy.

During his mission, Dr. Noboru, together with the UNIDO Indonesia team, held a productive meeting with the Initiative for ASEAN Integration (IAI) and Narrowing Development Gap Division (NDG) of the ASEAN Secretariat. Discussions focused on the future direction and potential continuation of the existing Technical Cooperation for Enhancing the Climate Technology Innovation Ecosystem in ASEAN Project, including opportunities to further strengthen regional cooperation and support inclusive innovation ecosystems across ASEAN.

Dr. Noboru also met with Pristinz Solutions, one of the startups participating in the ASEAN Sparks programme. The session provided an opportunity for the company to showcase its latest thermal glass product mock-up, exchange updates on its future development plans, and receive insights, technical consultation, and mentoring from Dr. Noboru on scaling innovation and market opportunities.

At the ASEAN Climate Tech Forum, Dr. Noboru delivered a presentation on UNIDO’s Global Approach to Supporting Inclusive Cleantech Ecosystems and moderated the panel discussion, “Scaling Clean Tech Innovation Across Borders: What ASEAN Can Adapt from Global Initiatives.” The discussions highlighted the importance of cross-border collaboration, knowledge exchange, and enabling ecosystems in accelerating the region’s clean technology transition.

UNIDO remains committed to working closely with ASEAN institutions, partners, and innovators to foster an inclusive and resilient cleantech ecosystem that advances sustainable industrial development and supports ASEAN’s shared climate ambitions.

Strengthening partnerships for industrial decarbonization in Indonesia 🇮🇩

From 12–17 April 2026, Abu Saieed, Policy Analyst and Regional Lead (Southeast Asia) at UNIDO Headquarters, undertook an official mission to Jakarta to advance collaboration under the Net Zero Partnership for Industrial Decarbonization (NZP-ID) and support Indonesia’s transition toward a low-carbon industrial sector.

During the mission, he participated as a speaker at INTERCEM Asia 2026, contributing to the global dialogue on decarbonizing the cement industry.

The visit also included a series of constructive engagements with national counterparts, including the Ministry of Industry, the Ministry of Environment and Forestry, the Ministry of Public Works and Housing, the National Public Procurement Agency (LKPP), and PT Sarana Multi Infrastruktur (PT SMI), as well as development partners such as the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI), the Habibie Center, and the International Climate Initiative (IKI).
Discussions focused on:

• Advancing Green Public Procurement (GPP) frameworks
• Strengthening technical cooperation on industrial decarbonization
• Exploring opportunities for climate finance and capacity building
• Enhancing synergies with ongoing national and regional initiatives

These exchanges reaffirm UNIDO’s commitment to supporting Indonesia in achieving inclusive and sustainable industrial development, in line with global climate objectives.
