The "harmless" joke in the group chat? It’s the foundation for the assault in the real world.

Every time we laugh at a joke that demeans women, we strengthen the chains of a culture that protects predators.

It starts with the words we use. It starts with the groups we’re in. It ends when we stop being silent.

We carry the fiery spirit of ASEAN’s youth. Within us burns courage and an unwavering drive to make change, even when the world pushes back.

Our voices are justice itself, racing with the wind to spread hope at the edge of the storm. We speak boldly, fight fiercely, and never stop standing for what is right.
Thank you 2025, let’s go 2026!

In recent months, young people have emerged as the driving force behind change in their countries. Massive demonstrations in Indonesia have demanded that public officials make changes after the House of Representatives (DPR) planned to increase their allowances to 100 million rupiah per month. In Nepal, massive demonstrations have become a political action to oust corrupt officials. In Timor-Leste, young people have taken to the streets demanding that their DPR revoke the decision to purchase cars for officials when the people are in dire straits.

However, the conflict between Thailand and Cambodia has escalated the border dispute, causing friction at all levels, including among young people from the two countries.

We interviewed Memee, a young activist from Thailand, to gain her perspective on preventing conflict between the two countries from reaching the youth level. 🎙️

ASEAN For The People's Forum, 4-5 October 2025

For the past 2 days, AYF has been participating in the ASEAN For The People's Forum in Jakarta as organizers of the Roundtable discussion, panelists, and opening up a booth to share our works.

In this event, AYF conducted a roundtable discussion with the topic “Advancing Environmental Sustainability, Human Rights, and Social Cohesion in the Lens of Youth, Peace, and Security (YPS) Agenda,” attended by 40 diverse young people from 26 communities. Jointly with the representatives from the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

This event has brought so many people in Jakarta as it is open to the public, to engage with CSOs and state officials from ASEAN countries.

We are also honored to moderate the panel on Connectivity:
Why So Difficult? The Challenges of Advancing People-to-People
Connectivity in Southeast Asia, joined by insightful panelists: Dr. Nguyen Anh Tuan, Senior Lecturer at the Faculty of International Economics,
Diplomatic Academy of Vietnam, Dr. Piti Srisangnam, Executive Director of ASEAN Foundation, Melinda Martinus, Lead Researcher at ISEAS, Valentim da Costa Pinto, Executive Director, Sekretariat Forum ONG Timor Leste (FONGTIL).

We are also invited as a discussant along with The ASEAN Frontier and ISAFIS in the session Journalism: the Role of Media in Ensuring ASEAN's "Open Caring Society" with the panelists consisting of Bambang Harymurti, member of the Board of PT Tempo Inti Media, Kavi Chongkittavorn, columnist of the Bangkok Post, John Nery, Columnist and Editorial Consultant of the Rappler Ph, Amy Chew, Independent Journalist, and moderated by Anggi M. Lubis from the Conversation Indonesia.

We involved our Green Youth Hub members in this event as a way for them to connect with peers and engage with ASEAN-level CSOs and officials. AYF also gained benefits from this event, as we established numerous wonderful networks to collaborate with.

Thank you, FPCI, for holding a great event! See you next year. 👋🏽

Over 2,000 voices, one message: This is not the future we were promised.

Students and citizens gathered outside the National Parliament in Dili to reject a plan that prioritizes luxury over livelihood, 65 cars for MPs in a country where over 40% live below the poverty line.

In a nation battling inequality, unemployment, and malnutrition, this decision does not reflect the will of the people.

We demand accountability. We demand justice.
Together, we say: .

REFORM. RESIST. RECLAIM. 🇹🇱
