01/01/2026

Throughout 2025, Indonesia NPAP advanced a series of strategic and concrete actions, step by step, by strengthening collaboration among multiple stakeholders to tackle plastic pollution in Indonesia. These efforts brought together government, the private sector, NGOs, local communities, and beyond.

We extend our sincere appreciation to the Ministry of Environment (), led by Mr. as Indonesia NPAP Ambassador; Mrs. Nani Hendiarti, Deputy Coordinating Minister for Food Accessibility and Safety at the .ri and Government Co-Chair of Indonesia NPAP; Mr. .dsupriyadi, Non-Government Co-Chair of Indonesia NPAP; and all Indonesia NPAP members for their collaboration throughout 2025.

Here’s a short kaleidoscope video capturing key moments from the past year, while acknowledging that many bilateral meetings were not documented on video. We look forward to going further in 2026, working together toward a future free from plastic pollution.

Yesterday, on 21 August, Indonesia’s , in collaboration with and Indonesia NPAP, held a high-level meeting attended by government representatives, think tanks, environmental organizations, and private sector stakeholders concerned about plastic pollution. The meeting was led by the Minister of Environment, , who also serves as Indonesia NPAP Ambassador.

This meeting aimed to outline strategic steps following the inconclusive outcome of INC-5.2 in Geneva. “INC-5.2 concluded without reaching a consensus. Nevertheless, Indonesia remains firmly committed to taking concrete actions, even in the absence of a global agreement,” said Minister Hanif during the meeting.

Several key recommendations emerged from the meeting as calls to action for the next steps:
1. Positioning Indonesia NPAP as a multi-stakeholder platform to support government priorities in strengthening Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) for packaging.
2. Coordinating the mobilization of non-governmental funding to enhance waste management efforts.

This meeting was attended by representatives from .ri, .id, , , & .

Several representatives from the private sector and communities also attended, most of them members of Indonesia NPAP, including , , .id, .id, , , , , , , , , , .co, , , , , & .

[Latest Update from Geneva – INC 5.2]

On 13 August at 2.50 PM, Ambassador Luis Vayas, Chair of the Intergovernmental Negotiating Committee (INC) on Plastic Pollution, tabled the Chair’s Draft Text Proposal ahead of the third plenary session.

The proposal presents an almost clean draft of the agreement, with Article 6 on Supply/Sustainable Production slashed and only minor remaining brackets under the Plastics Product Design and National Plans article.

Having an agreement sometimes means it may not be ideal for everyone.

June might have been one of the busiest months for the Secretariat of Indonesia NPAP. Throughout the month, we held several meetings to gather input and recommendations to support the government’s position ahead of the upcoming INC-5.2 in Geneva, Switzerland, this August.

On June 4 and 19, we gathered input from upstream to downstream companies — in preparation for INC-5.2, which will take place in Geneva this August.

In the last week of June, we also held an insightful discussion with the non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and innovators to bring their perspectives into the global discourse on plastic pollution.

The Secretariat has mapped these inputs to support the Delegation of Indonesia in the negotiation of the International Legally Binding Instrument (ILBI) on plastic pollution.

With open ears and hands from all sectors, we are stepping forward to bring voices from diverse stakeholders to address plastic pollution together.

Thank you to all who contributed their voices and insights: , .indonesia, , , , , , , .id, , , Reuse Special Interest Group, .earth, , , , .hub, .id, , , .co, , .id, — and many others who may not be mentioned by name, but whose contributions are equally valued.
