There is something special about reading a book and then getting to ask the author about it directly. 📖✨

Last month Literature Study Group explored The Glass Islands by Mark Heyward, a heartwarming memoir of his life on Lombok. And we were lucky enough to have Mark join us live via Zoom to share his writing process, answer our questions, and hear our thoughts on his work.

Lombok has always had a story worth telling. Beautiful, layered, and often overlooked. It was wonderful to see it brought to life through the eyes of someone who truly made it home. 🌿🇮🇩

See you at the next Literature Study Group! 📚💙

Throwing it back to one of our favorite days this season. 🌸✨

Our annual Blue Lotus closing event brought everyone together under one theme, Pasar Raya Jakarta: Embracing Betawi Culture. And it felt like exactly that🤗 A real celebration of how beautifully layered Betawi culture is, built from so many different cultures coming together over centuries in the heart of Jakarta.

The day kicked off with moringa leaf tea from La Moringa and kue putu to welcome our guests, before our speakers took the floor with words that genuinely moved the room. We celebrated our community, recognized our most active sections, and took a moment to reflect on what a season it has been. 🌿🎤

And then came the highlight, ondel-ondel (ONDEL-ONDEL BINTANG CIPETE ) filling the room with energy while guests got to enjoy a proper spread of Betawi food. Nasi ulam, kerak telor, es podeng (⚠️ Spesialis Catering Es Podeng & Es Doger ⚠️ ). The kind of food that reminds you why this culture is worth celebrating. 🍽️🎭

What a way to close the season🤗 Until next year, Blue Lotus! 🇮🇩💙

An inspiring afternoon with Weaving Wonders at Tugu Kunstkring Paleis.

Indonesian Heritage Society’s textile and culture enthusiasts joined a special sharing session featuring Yori Antar, Umbu Ignas, and Rizali Duana. The discussion offered fascinating insights into vernacular architecture and the weaving communities of Nusa Tenggara Timur (NTT).

Beyond the enriching conversations, IHS Friends had the opportunity to engage directly with the speakers and explore the beautifully curated exhibition.

What connects Indonesia and South Africa? 🌍📖

We're sitting down with Isna Marifa, a bilingual writer whose debut novel "Mountains More Ancient / Sapaan Sang Giri" was shortlisted for the Chommanard International Women's Literary Award 2025 and digs into the historical and cultural ties between two countries most people would never think to connect.

And before she was a novelist, she spent decades working in environmental practice in Indonesia. Her path to writing is a story on its own✨

Come join the conversation! 🇮🇩🇿🇦
