Tomorrow's Hope

Tomorrow's Hope Tomorrow's Hope is a mission to meet the needs of the underprivileged children in Nias Indonesia.

I was in my late 30s and God had laid this burden on me even before I came on full-time ministry as a co-worker. I completed my Bachelor of Theology (BTH) with Singapore Bible College and served a few years with Jurong Christian Church. My calling was specifically to Indonesia, and so I did just that. In late 2001, my wife and I decided to fully commit to this mission work. When the tsunami happen

ed, the shelter was overrun with orphaned and needy children. Having been away in Indonesia these 2 decades in Nias to setup the children's shelter, empower them with equal education and enable them to earn a living has been a blessing.

ANNUAL REPORT PART 2: CHILDREN'S CHARACTER DEVT & WELLBEING

The faith statements of Harapan Hari Esok Community has always been to confess Jesus Christ as Lord and acknowledge the Holy Scriptures as the norm for faith and life. Our main objectives are:

- To proclaim the Gospel to all people in the nation of Singapore.
- To participate in world wide mission.
- To gather into fellowship those believers who respond in faith to the call of the Gospel.

As our children grow spiritually and gain the intellectual means to survive through education, we also monitor their growth socially to improve their emotional quotient simultaneously. Having come from impoverished backgrounds, the children are stunted in how they regulate their emotions. Hence they require prayer in emotional maturity as much as in their academics.

In this blog post, we provide individualised breakdown for each child's character development, which you may pray over - https://www.tomorrows-hope.life/post/annual-report-2026-part-2-character-devt

MAKE A DIFFERENCE
The goal for this year is $25,000. This amount will amply supply the ever-growing needs of the orphanage. Please consider giving directly to the ministry so that you make the most impact with your resources.

ANNUAL REPORT PART 1: CHILDREN'S ACADEMIC PROGRESS

We are grateful for each of you in your various means of support over the years - whether in volunteering, in donating or in praying - all of which have been vital in keeping the flame alive in the staff and the beneficiaries. As you've seen the ups and downs of the ministry, we appreciate you sticking with the team through thick and thin. Tomorrow's Hope strives to do better by you and the beneficiaries. In this blog series, sections of our committee's annual report submitted in Jan 2026 to the Indonesian government are translated and published in a few parts here.

Every child in Yayasan Harapan Hari Esok (Tomorrow's Hope) is nurtured both spiritually and physically by introducing Lord Jesus Christ to them, teaching them to live by following the example of Christ, and to live depending on Him. In addition, our children are required to receive education in schools that have a partnership with us, namely at Lentera Harapan School (Lantern School of Hope), and some also at public schools within driving distance.

While we provide the basic necessities and shelter for the children in the home, we aim to instill in them the importance of receiving education in order to develop their intellectual and social skills in a safe learning environment. With the shelterโ€™s longstanding partnership with Lantern School of Hope (the nearest school to us), we ensure these rural poor beneficiaries continue in their studies unabated.

In this blog post, we break down each childโ€™s academic progress, or lack thereof, and request prayers for each of these beneficiaries: https://www.tomorrows-hope.life/post/annual-report-2026-part-1-children-s-academic-progress

Chng Khan Lian reflects on her mission trip to Tomorrow's Hope:

Our mission objective was to share the Good News of Jesus Christ to these children and that was done by the sharing of our personal testimonies of His divine grace and mercy. Our programs also included, to name a few, teaching craft works such as candle making, sewing, and painting the exterior of the multi purpose hall.

I was deeply impressed by the daily devotion of the children. As young as 5 years old, they are involved in the nightly worship service. I was ministered by the childrenโ€™s devotion, their beautifully sung songs of praises and thanksgiving.

Jurong Christian Church dispatched a team of mission trippers to Tomorrow's Hope in Nias recently to bless the charity there. Jenny and Jonathan taught the children to cook dishes like Hainanese chicken rice and Malaysian-style curry. The children savoured every bite, their contentment humbling us.

These hands-on moments revealed that discipleship thrives in everyday acts, not just sermons. Their eagerness to learn was striking. Khan Lian and Yen Luan taught them sewing, leading to ingenious creations from Batik cloth.

Shi Hui and Joanne introduced various crafts, like floral resin bookmarks and scented candles, which sparked joyful creativity. With Joash and Sebastian, language barriers melted as children learned teamwork through games.

We thank God for the successful and meaningful trip made by this team and pray that each tripper and child were blessed by this interaction.

A team of mission trippers will be going to Tomorrow's Hope orphanage on 19 June after a stopover through Medan. They will be interacting with the children residing there and helping with refurbishing some old kitchen equipment, as well as other facilities on-site. We thank God for the funds raised and donated items like laptops that will benefit the staff and kids there.

Since there are 3 young children tagging along as a family with the team, do pray for strength for the tasks ahead, and that each member will be blessed as they aim to bless the beneficiaries too.

On Saturday 14 Dec, the children at Tomorrow's Hope celebrated a Christmas Candlelight Service where they performed song and dance for their guests and relatives. With your contribution, they were also treated to a hearty feast of fish, chicken etc in a wide spread. The kids had the opportunity to be a blessing and be blessed as they closed the year with much thanksgiving ๐Ÿ’ƒ๐Ÿป

They will have the opportunity to visit home or relatives before their new school year begins in Jan 2025. May they continue to hold out hope despite their difficulties in childhood. ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿป

Ps Mike and his wife Ibu Sintha touched down in Nias on Friday 6 Dec morning. This is their prayer request for the 2 weeks there -

Greetings in the name of our Lord Jesus. ๐Ÿ•Š

Please do remember, in prayer, my wife and I as we depart for Nias on the 3rd December and return on the 17th December.
1. His provision to our trip and a safe journey especially for Sintha who is still struggling with a bad back.
2. Meeting with the local authorities pertaining to the society's new constitution.3. Quality time with the children, whom we have not physically met for about a year.
4. That we will be a source of encouragement to the social workers, the teachers of our Kindergarten and etc.
Thank you and
Blessings in the name of Jesus Christ. ๐Ÿ™

The mini buses at the Tomorrow's Hope orphanage are 15-year old rusty buckets so they are now undergoing major chassis repairs. The engines are still chugging along fine but the air con units are long kaput, so the kids and staff just enjoy the natural breeze ๐Ÿ˜

Your contributions will continue to upkeep and maintain these facilities and equipment for the orphanage's regular usage. Our aim for 2025 is $35k, with $24k going to support staff salaries (farmers, teachers, social workers, ad hoc plumber and electrician) and $11k going towards food, kindergarten and farm necessities.
