That wasn’t a rescue. Here’s how to tell the difference. 🧵

Fake rescue content = animals deliberately put in danger so a creator can “save” them on camera. It happens to kittens, dogs, macaques, birds, any animal that gets views.

Use A.R.C. to :
🔍 A: Authenticity
→ No real animal org linked to the account
→ Multiple “rescue” videos, same creator every time
→ No follow-up on what happened to the animal
→ Rescue looks unprofessional or oddly convenient

🔍 R: Reality Check
→ Would this encounter actually happen? (snake + kitten?)
→ Same animals keep appearing in different videos
→ Situation feels staged, not random

🔍 C: Creation
→ Camera was already rolling before the “discovery”
→ Multiple angles = it was set up
→ Creator films instead of helping immediately

If you spot it: don’t share, don’t engage, report it!

Meet the Speakers - Session 2: Wildlife Trade & Online Cruelty

Wildlife trafficking doesn’t happen in isolation, and neither does online animal cruelty.

In this session, our speakers bring together frontline investigation, digital monitoring, and behavior-change expertise to unpack how online cruelty fuels the illegal wildlife trade, and what we can do to disrupt this cycle.

Moderator: Amanda Faradifa (SMACC/MACC)
Speakers:
– Krismanko Padang (East Java Natural Conservation Agency)
– Ismail Agung + Gusbi G (YIARI)
– Russell Gray (GI-TOC)

From law enforcement and field investigations to digital intelligence and public awareness campaigns, this session highlights why cross-sector collaboration is essential to tackle both online and offline harms.

The Global South Animals Alliance is officially launched!

At the AfA Conference 2025 in Taipei, we introduced the Global South Animals Alliance (GSAA), a platform to connect animal protection networks across the Global South.

We are proud to welcome the very first members of GSAA: Africa Network for Animal Welfare [ANAW], Coalition of African Animal Welfare Organisations, and Latin Group for Animals.

Facing common challenges - limited funding, exclusion from global decision-making, and policies shaped without their realities - much of the work in the Global South remains disconnected. GSAA is the conscious effort to change that.

Envisioned as a network of networks, it creates space for exchange, where organizations can share knowledge, learn from each other, and strengthen collective animal protection work.

Because when those closest to the challenges are connected, the solutions are stronger.

📢 AfA Guidelines on Humane Response to Dog Population Issues in Indonesia available in Bahasa Indonesia!

In Indonesia, rabies concerns sometimes are handled with quick reactions that don't actually solve the problem — as shown below.

❌ Relocating dogs can create more welfare challenges in the relocation site.

✅ Vaccination, supported by cross-sector coordination, is the most effective and humane way to protect both communities and dogs from rabies.

If you're interested to learn more about humane and effective responses to dog population issues, our humane response guidelines are now available in Bahasa Indonesia 🇮🇩

The Asia for Animals Coalition (AfA) has submitted an appeal to the Ministry of Forestry of the Republic of Indonesia, calling for a nationwide ban on the trade and private keeping of primates as pets.

Primates are not domesticated animals and are fundamentally unsuitable as pets. The trade continues to drive serious welfare harms, including early maternal separation, lifelong psychological trauma, and exploitation for online content. It also contributes to population declines and increases risks to public health.

Beyond animal welfare, close and unregulated human–primate interactions present preventable risks under , including the potential for zoonotic disease transmission.

In this letter, we respectfully advocate for a clear and enforceable national policy to end the primate pet trade, alongside humane and practical solutions for animals already in private ownership.
