Preparing well is an essential step before starting any research.
In December 2025, the research team relocated from Jakarta to Bali to begin the early preparations for the CORDAP CLIP 2025 LPS coral spawning research. During this period, we focused on strengthening our technical readiness, coordination, and system preparation before the research officially begins after the Eid holiday.
One of the first activities was collaborating with PT Neptune Aquatic Marine in Bali, where we had the opportunity to observe Euphyllia glabrescens spawning in their facility. This experience served as an initial training for our team to closely observe the spawning process, from gamete release, larval settlement, to early development.
In addition, we conducted internal meetings to plan the first six months of the project, including research activities, coordination with collaborators, task distribution, and financial planning.
The team also learned practical husbandry techniques for ex situ coral systems, including daily monitoring of water quality (temperature, salinity, and pH) and weekly checks of nutrient and growth-related parameters.
Before the Eid break, we prepared the observation tanks that will be used in the study—cleaning the systems, checking equipment, replacing filters, and ensuring everything is functioning properly. With support from the team at PT Neptune Aquatic Marine, we also maintained the tanks by managing lighting schedules so that existing coralline algae can continue to grow and help support coral health during the upcoming research period.
These preparations mark the first steps toward conducting our coral spawning research, ensuring that once the holiday ends, the team and systems are ready to begin.
