The Blend Within

The Blend Within The objective of “The Blend Within” is to bridge and raise awareness of cross cultural influences and similarities around the world.

The Blend Within people and cultures is the secret to establish meaningful connections through similarities, to shape and celebrate intercultural excellence and to thrive together for the benefit of future generations. By showing how and what is connecting people and cultures, and how it enhances intercultural relationships, it allows people to unite and adjust their perspectives of our world as a

whole.

“This is your story”. Get in touch with a part of your own identity. We celebrate the history, present and future view on intercultural collaboration, the cross influence of language, food, arts, music, fashion, architecture and technology. What it means to be mixed, to mix or to live in a mixed world, and how everything is related to what you are experiencing right now.

The Blend Within "Architecture" - Torres de Satélite (1957) by Luis Barragán & Mathias Goeritz reflects a bold fusion of modernist abstraction with cultural symbolism.

The sculptural towers merge the languange of Modernism and geometricvminimalism with the monumental presence of Mesoamerican architecture - echoing ancient markers and sacred forms-while the vibrant colors connect to mexican identity and landscape.

Photo by Armando Salas Portugal, the work captures a meeting point between European avant-garde thinking and local cultural expression at an urban scale.

Thanks to HAT - DSK Crew, active since the mid 80s, between the trains, surrounded by pieces on both sides. This is RAW graffiti in its purest form.

Respect to HAT and DSK Crew for opening their archive.

FUSE / Future Fresh

An ongoing project.

FUSE is our long-term exploration of hybrid identity, shaped by migration, memory, and creative expression. What began with the legacy of Eurasian families who arrived in the Netherlands in the 1950s expands into contemporary life in Indonesia, where past and present move in constant dialogue.

As a contemporary visual concept, FUSE brings together photography, fashion, design, reimagined food culture, and personal narratives. It captures daily life between worlds, where heritage evolves through artistic practice and imagination.

This is what we, and , continue to explore.

FUSE grows over time.
It reflects who we are.

We have some RAW film, slides, and video from the early ’80s and mid-eighties. Graffiti, B-boys,
and MCs at T’Breehuys in Leiden, Zulu Rockers, the early days, and even have my cousin Dennis
headspinning. The Burner from the MP - Sore & Jesse in the back. The old DJ booth where we
rocked Mantronix and more.

A true treasure for the Return to RAW project, big thanks to Paulien & Ingrid at T’Breehuys for sharing these moments.

Grandmaster - "Paatje Phefferkorn"

Happy to share that the Phefferkorn tapes are safe and we’ve started working on the interview.

These recordings have traveled all the way from the Netherlands to Indonesia, in 2008, and over time some parts were affected by humidity, but we’re bringing them back to life.

Paatje Phefferkorn is a Grandmaster in Pencak Silat, a martial art from Indonesia, mainly practiced on the islands of Java and Sumatra.

The edit is in progress… can’t wait to show you more soon.

Yes!!! ✨️ 10 Year Anniversary – Flashback to 2015, our first project and the start of The Blend Within 🎂✨️⚡️

--- Connected by Similarities ---

This was where it all began: exploring what connects people, cultures, and places through art, music, fashion, and creativity.

We worked with amazing contemporary artists like Dries van Noten, Stella Jean, DJ Kentaro, Olivia Rose, Jennifer Lim, Achmad Barnez, Ki:Theory, Djaga, Odesza, Vaja, Anna Zassimova,, and many more.

The exhibition also featured works from historical figures who explored mixed cultures in their work, including Leon Bakst, (credit: Leo Boudreau) and the works of Ballet Russes, Jan Toorop, Paul Poiret, Serge Sudeikin, Claude Debussy, and Callot Soeurs.

We created portraits of people of mixed heritage, with support from Lara and Elyse,  connecting past and present.

Every element was interactive, point, scan, and play, linking artworks to audio, video, interviews, and performances. Thanks to Layar, Amsterdam!

Thank you to everyone who was part of this first project, which remained a semi-permanent exhibition for three years at the Dutch Embassy in Jakarta, and believed in our mission from the start. Thanks Emma

Back in 2008, we filmed a special interview in The Netherlands with Pencak Silat Grandmaster Paatje Phefferkorn, for our Grandmaster series.

As teenagers, we saw Paatje perform and speak, strong, sharp, and full of humor. There was something magnetic about him: the way he carried tradition, spoke of rights and honor, and bridged generations through his stories.

Our approach was to come in like family, open-hearted, and our talk went everywhere, from childhood and war to women and even hip-hop.

With the support of The Indo Project, we’re bringing this rare piece of history back to life.

We began restoring and digitizing the old MiniDV tapes, hoping this special conversation can be preserved for future generations.

Now let’s wait and see the results… 👀
