We are a cultural association with a focus on media and communication, working in Debrecen and Hortobagy Hungary.

Trainings, online and offline communication tools, ESC volunteering Young journalists of Debrecen and Hajdú-Bihar County founded the Sound-Picture Association in 2000. We noticed that there was a lack in the professional rising generation in the local media. Although communication is a popular department at the Hungarian universities, we realised that the students did not really know what it means

to work in a radio or TV. Our association is training young people to prepare radio programs, TV magazines and short films on intercultural happenings of Europe. These audio and video materials are broadcasted at regional radios and TVs and are uploaded on file sharing engines as well. In the framework of our non-formal communication trainings they can try out themselves in practice. We show them the first steps that are necessary to become radio or TV journalists and at the end they do individual presentations. In the past few years our association has turned towards communication skill trainings as well, where disadvantaged groups of youngsters got the possibility to improve their communication skills in order to find a better job or to address the stakeholders in a more effective way to achieve their goals. Besides these the association helps many local and regional NGOs with information campaigns (newsletters, web design, information materials, photos, etc.) and communication trainings to publish their programs to their target groups in the most effective way. Some of the members of the association are still working as journalists, while others chose different jobs, but are still working for the association as volunteers. Our organisation is continuously working with local and international volunteers, this way involving more and more local youngsters in our programs.

Standing tall in the heart of the Great Forest park, the Nagyerdei Víztorony (Great Forest Water Tower) is one of Debrecen’s coolest landmarks. It beautifully connects the city's past with a lively modern lifestyle.
A Bit of History: Built in 1913 as a functional industrial water tower, this beautiful concrete monument was later fully renovated and cleverly reimagined. Instead of being left behind as an old relic, it was transformed into a dynamic community hub.
What You Can Do: It truly offers something for everyone. You can climb to the Observation Deck for a panoramic view of the forest and university area, challenge yourself on the outdoor climbing wall built onto the tower's pillar, or just relax at the Víztoronykert café and bar at the base with a refreshing drink or a wine spritzer.
Events & Nightlife: By night, the tower becomes a vibrant cultural hotspot. It regularly hosts open-air concerts, live DJ sets, and exhibitions under cozy string lights.
The best part? The tower changes its look for special occasions. During major events—like the Hungary vs. Kazakhstan football match—the entire structure lights up in spectacular national colors! It is the perfect place to stop by after a game to soak in the incredible nightlife energy and experience the unique charm of Debrecen.

The Main Building of the University of Debrecen is one of the most iconic landmarks in Debrecen and a symbol of higher education in Hungary. The university was founded in 1912, while the monumental Main Building was completed and officially opened in 1932 after several years of construction. Designed by architect Flóris Korb, the building combines Eclectic and Neo-Baroque architectural styles, giving it a grand and elegant appearance. Its impressive façade stretches over 100 meters, and the magnificent central hall features a glass-roofed courtyard surrounded by arcaded corridors. When it was completed, it was considered one of the most modern university buildings in Hungary and remains one of the largest and most beautiful buildings in Debrecen today. The symmetry, decorative details, monumental columns, and spacious interiors reflect the importance of science and education, making the building both an architectural masterpiece and a cultural symbol of the city.
