An Autonomous Union. Open to the World. 🇪🇺🌍

Europe’s autonomy means having the strength to shape its own future 💪 while remaining a reliable and open partner to the world 🤝
It is about being prepared, competitive, and united—rooted in shared values and social cohesion.

During its Presidency of the Council of the EU, Cyprus is advancing five key priorities:
- security and defence readiness 🛡️
- competitiveness and innovation 🚀
- an open yet autonomous global role 🌐
- a Union of values that leaves no one behind 🤍
- and a long-term EU budget fit for the future 📊

Together, building a stronger, more resilient Europe for all ✨

📰 RSF 2025 World Press Freedom Index confirms that Europe remains the safest region for journalists, yet media freedom is showing signs of decline.

Economic fragility, disinformation, and shrinking media funding are testing the resilience of democratic information systems.

🇪🇪 Estonia ranks 2nd worldwide, standing out for its strong legal guarantees, digital transparency, and active fight against propaganda. However, even leading countries face challenges in balancing security, pluralism, and sustainability.

As the European Media Freedom Act enters into force, the EU’s commitment to independent journalism will be crucial to preserving trust, democracy, and the right to know.
