On October 8, two prestigious cultural institutions in Budapest, located on both sides of the holy Danube River, were able to partake in the wonderful fruits of Parvathy Baul Maa’s divine seva. At the Academy of Arts, she presented her newly published book in Hungarian, Songs of Great Souls, through which Hungarian Baul Anuragees can delve deeper into the wisdom of the Bengali saints. Dr. Johanna Domokos (Jayanti), poet and linguist, led the discussion in sucha way that those present could hear about the essenceof the Baul tradition in the short time available. Parvathy Maa sang one of the songs from the book. She also presented here another beautiful Hungarian-related work, the Lalan-Tagore music album created with Béla Wittek. What’s more, she also presented her music album with the Bangladeshi master, Aklima Bubu, which has also just been published in print form in India.
From there, Parvathy Maa went straight to the Femme Harmone Gallery, where a long line of people were waiting on the street to see the Nirban Darshan exhibition. Here, to celebrate the arrival of the ektara in the space, Maa opened the event with the song Tumi chile ektara. Afterwards, the gallery owner, Dr. Gyöngyi Major, and then Dr. László Koppány Csáji gave their welcoming speeches, followed by Ágnes Mészáros (Aagneya), the artistic designer of the exhibition, who gave the opening speech, in which she said:
“Living with these images can be uplifting. There is the practitioner who does what we don’t have time to do. There is a presence brought from ancient times. Those we see in the picture, those who wrote the poem, those who made the engraving, all dedicated their lives to the path that leads to a better human existence. They carry this energy. Wisdom beyond the perceived spectacle. We can bring this contention to our lives with them. Eternal wisdom beyond daily fashion.”
At the exhibition, Parvathy Maa presented her new art album, Nirban Darshan, and then, in a spontaneous guided tour, revealed layers of meaning the woodcuts, allowing the fascinated visitors to return home with this treasure in their hearts.
The exhibition is open for one month, and with the proceeds from the sale of the works, Parvathy Maa is supporting the creation of a Hungarian Baul House in the sacred Pilis Mountains.
All these events are organized by the Sanatan Baul Association Europe and the Sanatan Siddhashram Adhyatmika Vishwa Vidya Satra Foundation to support Parvathy Maa's lifelong endeavour in serving the Baul tradition and Baul masters.
