🌍 ELTE IR Society Visit to the Embassy of Belgium 🇧🇪

Our members had the exclusive opportunity to visit the Embassy of the Kingdom of Belgium in Budapest, where we gained valuable insight into diplomatic practice and the day-to-day work of an embassy.

During the visit, we engaged in insightful discussions on Belgium-Hungary relations and cooperation in the political, economic, and cultural spheres, as well as Belgium's role within European and international diplomacy. Members also had the chance to learn more about the Embassy's work in strengthening bilateral relations and promoting international cooperation.

The program concluded with an engaging discussion and Q&A session with the esteemed Embassy staff, giving our members the opportunity to ask thoughtful questions and gain practical perspectives on diplomacy and international affairs.

🌍 Discussion with the British Ambassador 🇬🇧

ELTE IR Society, in collaboration with the Faculty of Social Sciences, had the honor of welcoming H.E. Justin McKenzie Smith, British Ambassador to Hungary, to the faculty for a special discussion with our members.

Our members had the exclusive opportunity to engage in a dynamic and insightful conversation with the Ambassador, covering a wide range of current political affairs and key international topics. The discussion also offered valuable perspectives on the realities of diplomatic work and the evolving nature of international relations.

The event was moderated by our Event Coordinator, Byanca Szabó, who facilitated an engaging exchange with the audience. Members also had the chance to hear the Ambassador’s advice on pursuing a career in diplomacy, making the experience both inspiring and practical.

We sincerely thank H.E. Justin McKenzie Smith for visiting the Faculty of Social Sciences, and Professor Andrew Ryder for organising this event.

🌍 ELTE IR Society’s Visit to UNICEF Hungary 🇺🇳

Our members had the exclusive opportunity to visit UNICEF Hungary, where we gained valuable insights into the organization’s impactful work both locally and globally.

During the visit, we explored key topics such as child rights protection, education and digital inclusion, youth participation, and UNICEF’s role in humanitarian responses. We also discussed how global challenges—such as migration, inequality, and shifting international dynamics—shape UNICEF’s priorities in Hungary and beyond.

In addition, our members had the unique opportunity to learn more about career paths and opportunities within UNICEF Hungary, making this an especially enriching experience for those interested in international organizations and humanitarian work.

🌍 ELTE IR Society’s Visit to Sándor Palace 🇭🇺

ELTE IR Society members had the exclusive opportunity to visit Sándor Palace, the official residence of the President of Hungary. During the guided tour, we explored the Palace’s rich history—from its origins as an aristocratic residence to its present role as a key institution in Hungarian state affairs.

Our members also gained valuable insights into the Palace’s functions and its significance within Hungary’s political and constitutional framework, while experiencing one of Budapest’s most prestigious landmarks up close.

At the conclusion of the visit, the esteemed senior staff of Sándor Palace organized an engaging and interactive Q&A session for our members. The session ended on a fun note, with top participants receiving special prizes from the Palace staff.

🌍 Presentation by H.E. The Ambassador of Ireland 🇮🇪

ELTE IR Society, in collaboration with HEAD ELTE and the Faculty of Social Sciences, had the honor of organizing a special event featuring H.E. Ambassador Ragnar Almqwist of Ireland. The presentation, titled “Ireland – Our Foreign Policy: Friendship with Hungary,” offered insightful perspectives on Irish diplomacy, Irish–Hungarian relations, and contemporary international affairs.

The event was expertly moderated by our Event Coordinator, Byanca Szabó Peredo, who posed thoughtful and engaging questions to the Ambassador and skillfully facilitated the audience Q&A, contributing to a dynamic and enriching discussion.

🌍 ELTE IR Society Visit to the Embassy of Latvia 🇱🇻

Our members had the exclusive opportunity to visit the Embassy of the Republic of Latvia and meet with H.E. Jurijs Pogrebnask, Ambassador of Latvia to Hungary. During the visit, we engaged in insightful discussions on Latvia–Hungary relations and the strengthening of cooperation in areas such as security and cultural exchange.

We also explored Latvia’s Strategic History and its Importance in the region. We also discussed Latvia’s approach to digital governance and its support for tech entrepreneurship, while gaining valuable insight into the embassy’s role in promoting academic partnerships and cooperation within the EU and NATO.

🌍 ELTE IR Society Visit to National Directorate-General for Immigration Policy 🇭🇺

Our members had the exclusive opportunity to visit the National Directorate-General for Immigration Policy in collaboration with the Ministry of Interior of Hungary. During the visit, we engaged in in-depth discussions with senior officials, including the Esteemed Directors of various departments, gaining first-hand insights into Hungary’s internal affairs and migration governance.

Key topics included the Directorate’s role in international affairs, the field of asylum in Hungary, and the country’s immigration policy framework. The visit offered a valuable perspective on policymaking, administration, and the practical challenges of migration management.

We would like to sincerely thank the Ministry of Interior of Hungary and the National Directorate-General for Immigration Policy for hosting ELTE IR Society and sharing their expertise with our members.

🌏 ELTE IR Society Visit to The Embassy of the Republic of Estonia 🇪🇪

Our members had the exclusive opportunity to visit the Embassy of the Republic of Estonia and meet with H.E. Raul Toomas, Ambassador of Estonia to Hungary. The visit featured engaging discussions on key contemporary issues, including Estonia’s relations with Russia and national security, as well as Estonia’s pioneering role in digital governance and support for tech entrepreneurship.

We also gained valuable insight into the embassy’s work in strengthening bilateral relations, promoting innovation, education, and cultural cooperation with Hungary. The visit was concluded with inspiring remarks and practical guidance from the esteemed embassy staff.
