A kiállítás a tudomány és a művészet, a tudomá
ny és a gazdaság lehetséges érintkezési pontjait vizsgálja. Nem csak azokat a kapcsolódásokat, amikor a művészek alkalmaznak tudományos eljárásokat, inkább tudományos és gazdasági eredmények művészi értelmezéséről, feldolgozásáról van szó. Miként jelenik meg munkájukban egy olyan, mindannyiunkat érintő probléma, mint az inváziós fajok kérdése, és az miként válik egy önálló kísérleti kezdeményezés kiindulópontjává? Hogyan válik a művész megfigyelésének tárgyává egy olyan, sokunk által idealizált természeti táj, mint az Alpok, melynek példáján keresztül megvilágítható ember és környezetének ambivalens viszonya, az emberi kisajátítás következményei, és az „érintetlen” tájat is átszövő hatalmi manipulációk? Célkeresztben a megértés folyamatai, a tudás manipulálhatósága és az ebből fakadó visszaélések lehetősége állnak. A művészek emlékeztetnek a tudományok, a tények és az igazságok viszonylagos voltára, miközben saját értelmezési modelleket és alternatívákat kínálnak fel. A projekt címe utalás Chris Burden munkájára (Flying Kayak, 1982), melyet azért választottunk, mert jól érzékelteti tudomány és művészet egymáshoz való viszonyának olykor abszurd, vicces, de mégis költői, játékos jellegét, ugyanakkor annak a kreatív alkotóerőnek a meglétét, amely mindkét terület elengedhetetlen feltétele.

THE FLYING KAYAK
This exhibition focuses on the relation between science and art, science and the economy, not just in those cases where artists apply scientific methods, but rather the artistic interpretations and elaborations of scientific and economic results. How do artists interpret the results of the research concerning abstract (for most of us) astronomy, such as the study of dwarf planets' status, for instance? How has the problem - which most of us have been affected by - such as the spread of invasive species been dealt with by artists, and how does it become a starting point for an independent pedagogical initiative? How does a theme such as the phenomenon of the Alps, which have been considered as an idealized natural landscape, become an artist's observation, a remarkable example of the ambivalent relationship between man and his surroundings, of the consequences of human expropriation, and the manipulation of powers that intertwine the "untouched" landscape? At the crossroads, there are the processes of understanding, the manipulation of knowledge, and the potential misuses of all operations. Artists remind us of the relative nature of science, the facts, and the truths as well while they offer their own interpretation models and alternative approaches. The project title bears reference to Chris Burden’s work The Flying Kayak (1982), which perfectly illustrates not only the, at times, absurd and humorous – while also poetic and playful –nature of the relationship between science and art, but also the presence of the kind of creative inspiration that is indispensable in both areas of discipline.
