"The Way of the Shaman Drum" by João Meirinhos dives into the mysticism of Shamanism and shares the art and craft of 70-year-old Guan Yunde, an exponent of Manchu's Shamanic culture.
The film is a dynamic exploration of the polytheistic faith of Shamans, their devotion to nature, and the intricate process of crafting Shaman drums from kiwi wood. Guan Yunde's journey challenges misconceptions and reflects the pride of a culture passed through generations.
Produced by Looking China’s Youth exchange program in collaboration with the University of Beijing and the University of Manchester, this film goes beyond ethnographic analysis by addressing political, cultural, and religious challenges.
