On May 30, 2026, The Association of Filipino Students in Hungary (AFSHu), together with the Philippine Embassy in Hungary, participated in the inaugural ASEAN Student Academic Symposium 2026 organized by the Thai Student Association at the Central European University (CEU) in Budapest.
The symposium brought together student researchers from six ASEAN member states—Thailand, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, the Philippines, and Vietnam—to present original research and engage in academic discussions on topics including innovation policy, climate diplomacy, artificial intelligence, education, and environmental sustainability.
The opening ceremony featured welcome remarks from ASEAN diplomatic representatives in Hungary, including H.E. Maria Elena P. Algabre, Ambassador of the Philippines to Hungary, underscoring the importance of academic collaboration, youth engagement, and regional cooperation among ASEAN nations.
Representing the Philippines, Danilo Lorenzo Delos Santos, a member of AFSHu and a student of International Politics at the University of Pécs, presented his research entitled “A Comparative Analysis of the Philippines, Indonesia, and Vietnam Innovation Policy Mix and Its Synergy with China’s Belt and Road Initiative.” His presentation contributed to discussions on innovation-driven development and regional cooperation in Southeast Asia.
The symposium also featured panel discussions and networking opportunities that fostered scholarly exchange among ASEAN students pursuing higher education in Hungary.
Through its participation, AFSHu reaffirmed its commitment to promoting Filipino student excellence, strengthening ties within the ASEAN student community, and supporting initiatives that showcase the academic achievements of Filipinos abroad.
