What a wonderful afternoon of learning, laughter, and meaningful conversations!

The Association of Filipino Students in Hungary gathered for our first Kumustahan of the year, starting with a visit to the Hungarian Academy of Sciences and ending with a relaxing coffee hangout. It was a great opportunity for Filipino students from different parts of Hungary to connect, share experiences, and build new friendships.

Thank you to everyone who joined us and made the event memorable. We look forward to more Kumustahan gatherings that strengthen our growing Filipino student community in Hungary!

On May 30, 2026, The Association of Filipino Students in Hungary (AFSHu), together with the Philippine Embassy in Hungary, participated in the inaugural ASEAN Student Academic Symposium 2026 organized by the Thai Student Association at the Central European University (CEU) in Budapest.

The symposium brought together student researchers from six ASEAN member states—Thailand, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, the Philippines, and Vietnam—to present original research and engage in academic discussions on topics including innovation policy, climate diplomacy, artificial intelligence, education, and environmental sustainability.

The opening ceremony featured welcome remarks from ASEAN diplomatic representatives in Hungary, including H.E. Maria Elena P. Algabre, Ambassador of the Philippines to Hungary, underscoring the importance of academic collaboration, youth engagement, and regional cooperation among ASEAN nations.

Representing the Philippines, Danilo Lorenzo Delos Santos, a member of AFSHu and a student of International Politics at the University of Pécs, presented his research entitled “A Comparative Analysis of the Philippines, Indonesia, and Vietnam Innovation Policy Mix and Its Synergy with China’s Belt and Road Initiative.” His presentation contributed to discussions on innovation-driven development and regional cooperation in Southeast Asia.

The symposium also featured panel discussions and networking opportunities that fostered scholarly exchange among ASEAN students pursuing higher education in Hungary.

Through its participation, AFSHu reaffirmed its commitment to promoting Filipino student excellence, strengthening ties within the ASEAN student community, and supporting initiatives that showcase the academic achievements of Filipinos abroad.

Here are the highlights of the International Food Day 2026 held by the University of Debrecen!

On April 24, 2026, Filipino students from University of Debrecen proudly represented the Philippines through delicious traditional dishes, vibrant culture, and warm hospitality in their participation at the university’s annual International Food Day. Some iconic Filipino dishes, which included palitaw, sagot’t gulaman, lumpia, and chicken adobo, were served to the many participants in the event, introducing visitors to the rich heritage of the Philippines. The event became a meaningful celebration of culture, unity, and friendship through food among international students.

Highlights from the Cultural Day at Corvinus University! 🌏

Filipino students from Corvinus University of Budapest proudly participated in the university’s annual Cultural Day, held on April 23, 2026, at Building E, where the campus transformed into a vibrant space where different cultures met.

The Philippine booth, with the support and presence of the Philippine Embassy in Hungary, represented by H.E. Ambassador Maria Elena P. Algabre, showcased the rich culture, traditions, and warm hospitality of the Philippines to guests, faculty members, and fellow international students from around the world.

Through cultural displays, meaningful conversations, and a taste of Filipino snacks and desserts, the Filipino student representatives shared a glimpse of Filipino heritage and strengthened connections within the diverse Corvinus community.

Together with 17 countries represented at the event, the Philippines joined in celebrating cultural diversity, unity, and friendship on campus. The event highlighted the vibrant presence of Filipino students and the beauty of Filipino culture abroad.

Check out the highlights of ELTE’s Cultural Connection Day 2026, held on April 23! 🌏🎉

The Filipino students of ELTE proudly presented a decorative Philippine booth, supported by the Philippine Embassy in Budapest. The booth featured various Filipino snacks and desserts such as Biko, Sapin-sapin, and Maja Blanca, offering guests a taste of Filipino culture and hospitality.

The event was made even more meaningful with the presence of H.E. Ambassador Maria Elena P. Algabre, who joined the celebration and showed support for the Filipino community. Alongside more than 27 embassies and diplomatic missions, international student associations, cultural performers, ambassadors, students, and university representatives, the Philippine booth helped make Cultural Connection Day a wonderful space for friendships without borders, meaningful conversations, and cultural exchange.

Through traditional elements of Filipino culture, warm hospitality, and engaging interactions with fellow international students, the event became a memorable opportunity to showcase the beauty, spirit, and pride of the Filipino community abroad.

Filipino students from the University of Pécs proudly represented the Philippines at their International Evening on March 28, 2026. The “Grand Masquerade”-themed event was an evening showcasing distinct cultures through food, performances, and camaraderie.

The Filipino representatives shared samples of Filipino dishes and delivered an entertaining on-stage performance that was well received by the audience. The event became a meaningful celebration of unity, allowing students to bring a piece of home to Hungary while giving visitors a chance to experience and appreciate Filipino culture.

On March 27, 2026, Filipino students from Semmelweis University proudly took part in the International Semmelweis Carnival and Multicultural Food Festival, representing the Philippines alongside a diverse array of cultures from around the world. The event brought together students, faculty, and visitors in a celebration of cultural diversity. It served as an opportunity to experience the richness of Filipino culture and learn about the warm, welcoming spirit that defines Filipino identity. The celebration created a lively and inclusive atmosphere where traditions, flavors, and stories were shared across borders.

Beyond the booth and food display, the representation of Filipino students carried a deeper significance. AFSHU Supports Filipino Community at Health Awareness Seminar and Screening in Budapest

On March 25th, 2026, The Association of Filipino Students in Hungary (AFSHu) participated in the Health Awareness Seminar and Basic Health Screening organized by the Philippine Embassy in Budapest, in coordination with its Labor Office, in celebration of National Women’s Month.

The event gathered Filipinos across Hungary, including students, workers, and long-term residents, to discuss key topics such as general health and wellness, workplace safety, women’s well-being, and access to healthcare services in Hungary. Experts from the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and FirstMed provided insights on migration health, mental well-being, and navigating local healthcare systems.

Miguel Angelo Victor Ontog, AFSHu’s Vice President for Internal Affairs and a registered nurse, delivered a talk on navigating healthcare in Hungary, encouraging participants to proactively seek healthcare services available to them. He also conducted free basic health screenings for attendees.

Speakers highlighted the importance of holistic well-being, with IOM underscoring that seeking help is normal and mental health matters, while FirstMed shared guidance on accessing medical services in Hungary.

The event highlighted the importance of collaboration in promoting health awareness among Filipinos abroad and strengthening community ties.
