Hungarian 17th century re-enactment and living history Association
Dear Reader! We greet you with the afore-mentioned line originally written by Debreceni Szappanyos János in 1604 as a prologue to the song entitled „Barrack song to prince Bocskai”. Our aim is namely to do research into the social history of the age of the Turkish occupation of Hungary (16-17th century), to revive its peculiar battle processes and to represent the authentic weaponry, clothing, manners, music, dance and literature of the era. Our members form an enthusiastic community with many years of experience on the field of preserving Hungarian historical traditions. The authenticity is guaranteed by the work of historians and other experts taking an active part in the Association’s life. Our performances are accompanied by traditional Turkish and Hungarian martial music performed by the Héttorony Band. We undertake performances with instrumental music, living history-lessons representing scenes taken from everday-life, re-enacted with 25 participants to reproduce the spirit of the era, to enliven the spectators and also to suit your personal requirements. The Association established flourishing partnerships with ministries and museums, local governments, institutions for general education, several associations and companies, even individuals from Hungary and various other countries. What we can offer:

- authentic performances on the military- and social history of the 16-17th century
- muster of troops with demonstration of armament
- Hungarian costumes (mercenary & heyduck)
- Live music played on authentic musical instruments (Turkish pipes, bagpipe, kopuz, saz, ud, drums, etc.)
- Demonstration of musketry training
- Life in a military camp (with authentic replica tents and other artefacts)

We fill famous buildings, castles and fortresses with life by re-enacting the happenings of bygone years. As a non-profit organization we turn all of our income to realize the above mentioned goals.

Éjszaka a múzeumban! 🌙🏛️

Nyár végén kicsit elcsendesedtem, de csak azért, mert rengeteg mindent csináltam. Ezt most sorban mind meg is mutatom nektek. 😊

A múlt héten egy rém izgalmas dologban vehettem részt a Budapesti Történeti Múzeum Vármúzeumában – ráadásul éjszaka: a török kori Budáról készülő új kiállítás kisfilmjeinek egyik forgatásán dolgoztunk.

Az én feladatom természetesen a viselet volt. 😊 Egy módos budai polgárasszony öltözködését vettük fel: milyen ruhadarabok kerülnek egymásra, milyen anyagokból készülhettek, hogyan viselték őket – és közben persze azzal is foglalkoztunk, hogyan lehet mindezt úgy megmutatni filmen, hogy történetileg hiteles legyen, de a látogató számára is érthető maradjon.

De besegítettem a budai borbélymesternek is Lajos barátunk megberetválásánál. 😄🪒

Mi is alig várjuk, hogy októberben megnyíljon a kiállítás, de addig még dolgozunk ezen-azon… 😉

Ez egyébként a múzeumi munka egyik olyan része, amit a látogató általában már csak készen lát: néhány perc film mögött források, régészeti és történeti kutatás, rekonstrukciók, szakemberek és rengeteg apró döntés áll.

Hoztam néhány képet a kulisszák mögül – mert azt hiszem, ideje lesz mostanában egy kicsit többet mutatnom abból is, mi történik a történelem kulisszái mögött. 😉

Alig értünk haza Olaszországból, de máris egy újabb filmforgatás közepén találtuk magunkat Budapesten.
Ez a nagyon izgalmas projekt hamarosan folytatódik. Köszönjük Sudár Balázs

A sárospataki Várjátékok nemcsak a történeti újrajátszó csapatokról, a csatajelenetekről és a tábori életről szólnak. A hétvége során a kísérleti régészet és a történeti kutatás izgalmas kérdései is terítékre kerülnek.
Három előadásban olyan témákkal találkozhatnak az érdeklődők, amelyek a régészeti leletek, a történeti források és a gyakorlati rekonstrukciók segítségével hozzák közelebb a múlt mindennapjait. A program előadói Sudár Balázs, Józsa Tibor és Zay Orsolya, akik saját kutatási területük legfrissebb eredményeibe engednek bepillantást.
Hamarosan mindhárom előadást külön is bemutatjuk – tartsatok velünk!

The Sárospatak Castle Festival is not only about historical reenactment groups, battle demonstrations, and camp life. Throughout the weekend, visitors will also have the opportunity to explore fascinating topics from the fields of experimental archaeology and historical research.
Our lecture programme features three presentations that reveal how archaeological finds, historical sources, and practical reconstruction can help us better understand everyday life in the past. The speakers—Balázs Sudár, Tibor Józsa, and Orsolya Zay—will share insights from their latest research and reconstruction projects.
Over the coming days, we will introduce each lecture in more detail. Stay tuned!

Érkezik szombaton hozzánk a Hungari Dzsebedzsi csapata is, akit jól ismerhettek már az izgalmas oszmán-török kutlúrát bemutató stárukról és felismerhettek a kávé és serbet előtt kanyargó sorról.
"Egyesületünket 2013-ban azzal a céllal hívtuk életre, hogy a lehető legpontosabban mutathassuk be az egykori Oszmán Birodalom kulturális világát, sokszínűségét, és közvetítő szerepét. Viseleteink, felszereléseink, programjaink egyaránt azt a célt szolgálják, hogy minél nagyobb, szélesebb tudást adhassunk át az érdeklődőknek. Kiemelten fontosnak tartjuk a tudomány legújabb eredményeinek népszerűsítését is, ezért minden évben novemberben összehívjuk az Élet a török hódoltságban konferenciát. ennek kellene egy angol változat."

One of our returning participants is the Hungari Dzsebedzsi group, well known to many of our visitors for their fascinating presentations of Ottoman culture—and perhaps also for the long queue that often forms in front of their coffee and şerbet stand!

We also place great emphasis on promoting the latest results of academic research. Since 2013, we have organised the annual conference "Life in Ottoman Hungary", bringing together researchers and enthusiasts interested in the history and culture of the Ottoman period."
