Today, HCPA proudly honors Guadeloupe Emancipation Day, marking 178 years since the abolition of slavery in Guadeloupe on May 27, 1848. 🇫🇷

Located in the French Caribbean within the Lesser Antilles, Guadeloupe is known for its rich blend of African, Indian, European, and Caribbean influences. French is the official language, while Guadeloupean Creole remains deeply woven into the island’s culture and daily life.

Shaped like a butterfly and made up of several islands, Guadeloupe is celebrated for its vibrant carnival traditions, gwo ka music and drumming, flavorful cuisine like bokit, accras, colombo, and boudin créole, and breathtaking natural beauty — from black sand beaches and waterfalls to the iconic La Soufrière volcano, the highest peak in the Lesser Antilles.

As a French overseas region, Guadeloupe’s official flag is the French tricolor 🇫🇷. Our flyer also features the flag popularized by the Union Populaire pour la Libération de la Guadeloupe (UPLG), a widely recognized symbol of Guadeloupean cultural identity and pride.

Our flyer highlights Fort Delgrès, one of Guadeloupe’s most historically significant landmarks and a lasting symbol of resistance, freedom, and heritage.

“Nou sé Gwadloup! Fière. Libre. Inoubliable.”
(We are Guadeloupe! Proud. Free. Unforgettable.)

Today, HCPA proudly celebrates 60 years of Guyana’s Independence and honors the resilience, culture, and diversity of the Guyanese people. 🇬🇾

On May 26, 1966, Guyana gained independence from British rule, becoming the first English-speaking country in South America to do so. Known as the “Land of Many Waters,” Guyana is celebrated for its natural beauty, multicultural heritage, and national motto: One People, One Nation, One Destiny.

Guyana is home to iconic landmarks like St. George’s Cathedral, one of the tallest wooden churches in the world, and Kaieteur Falls, one of the world’s most powerful single-drop waterfalls.

Guyanese culture reflects a rich fusion of African, Indian, Indigenous, Chinese, Portuguese, and European influences. From chutney, soca, tassa drumming, and carnival traditions to beloved dishes like curry, roti, cook-up rice, pepperpot, and seven curry, Guyana’s cultural spirit continues to influence communities across the Caribbean diaspora and beyond.

HCPA proudly celebrates the history, freedom, culture, and pride of Guyana. 🇬🇾

Today, HCPA honors Martinique 🇲🇶 Emancipation Day and commemorates 178 years since the abolition of slavery in Martinique on May 22, 1848 — celebrating the history, freedom, resilience, and pride of the people of Martinique.

Located in the Lesser Antilles of the Caribbean, Martinique is a French 🇫🇷 overseas territory known for its rich Afro-Caribbean heritage, vibrant Creole identity, and breathtaking natural beauty. The island’s official language is French, while Martinican Creole is also widely spoken and deeply woven into the culture and daily life of the people.

Martinique is known as the “Island of Flowers” and is home to the iconic Mount Pelée volcano, one of the Caribbean’s most recognized natural landmarks. The island is also celebrated for its zouk music, world-renowned rum production, French Creole cuisine, and strong cultural influence throughout the Caribbean diaspora.

The red, green, and black Martinique flag used today was officially adopted by the Collectivité Territoriale de Martinique in 2019 as a symbol of Martinican identity, unity, heritage, and pride. Its colors reflect strong ties to Pan-African movements and Caribbean liberation history.

Today we celebrate Haitian Flag Day 🇭🇹 — a powerful symbol of unity, freedom, resilience, and national pride ✊🏾

Observed annually on May 18th, Haitian Flag Day commemorates the creation of the Haitian flag in 1803 during the Haitian Revolution. The flag was formed after the removal of the white stripe from the French tricolor, symbolizing the unity between Black and mixed-race Haitians in the fight for independence.

Haiti would go on to become the first free Black republic in the world and the first independent Caribbean nation in 1804 — a historic achievement that continues to inspire generations globally.

Today, we honor the rich culture, history, strength, and enduring contributions of the Haitian people across the Caribbean diaspora and beyond.

Happy Haitian Flag Day‼️🇭🇹
