In January 2026, we completed our capacity building series on project development and management. 25 people from local organizations and the university were able to attend the entire series and were awarded certificates. Enjoy some photos from our final training!

Nan Janvye 206, nou te fini seri fòmasyon kapasite pou devlopman ak jesyon pwojè! 25 moun ki soti nan òganizasyon lokal yo ak inivèsite a te kapab patisipe nan tout seri a epi yo te resevwa sètifika. Gade kèk foto nan dènye fòmasyon nou an!

Of the 834 seedlings planted on May 1, 589 were breadfruit (Artocarpus altilis), 81 were avocado (Persea americana), 72 were sweet orange (Citrus sinensis), 58 were Spanish cedar (Cedrela sp.), and 34 were American mahogany (Swietenia mahagoni). These species provide food, medicine, and sustainable wood products for the community. Mahogany and Spanish Cedar are a native species — planting them contributes to biodiversity and provides food for a wide diversity of insects.

Our annual May 1 Event is coming up! Each year on Haiti’s Arbor Day (May 1), SRDH partners with local schools and communities to collectively care for the land. In the morning, participants attend workshops on reforestation and agroforestry, followed by hands-on experience planting seedlings with SRDH staff in the afternoon. Last year, 111 participants planted 1088 trees in SRDH community forests and on the land of partnering farmers.

Due to unforeseen cost increases in materials and transportation, we need to fundraise an additional $500 USD prior to May 1. Please help us reach our goal! You can donate on our website at https://www.srdhaiti.org/en/take-action (link in bio).

Evènman Premye me nou an prèske rive! Jou saa se li menm ki fèt agrikilti Ayiti (Premye me), fè patenarya ak lekòl ak lòt kominote yo. Nan maten, nou fè fòmasyon pale rebwazman ak Agroforestye. Apremidi yo pran eksperyans pratik Nan Plante pye bwa ak staff SRDH. Ane pase nou te gen 111 patisipan 1088 pye bwa te arive plante Nan forè kominotè SRDH ak sou tè kèk kiltivatè ki patnè ak nou.

Akoz ogmantasyon pri Nan enprevi Nan materyèl ak transpò, nou bezwen 500 dola anplis avan premye me. Tanpri ede nou atenn objektif nou! Ou ka fè don sou sit entènèt nou an: https://www.srdhaiti.org/en/take-action

Menm jan ak anpil lòt zòn nan peyi Dayiti, rejyon Duchity a ap lite ak debwazman. Akòz mòn yo apik ak tè sansib nan rejyon an, kominote yo, rekòt, ak anviwònman an riske nan glisman tè ak gwo pousantaj ewozyon paske gen kèk pye bwa pou pwoteje tè a.

One of SRDH’s ongoing projects is supporting local farmers with the implementation of agroforestry and regenerative agricultural practices on their lands. Agroforestry is an agricultural system that integrates tree cultivation and conservation.

Like much of Haiti, the Duchity region struggles with deforestation. Due to the steep mountains and sensitive soils of the region, communities, crops, and the environment are at risk of landslides and high rates of erosion since there are few trees to protect the soil. By implementing agroforestry systems, farmers can protect their crops from severe storms, rebuild their soil, benefit from alternative food and income sources, and promote the conservation of native species on their land.

These photos were taken in March 2025. They are of the land of a farmer in Duchity who has been partnering with us since 2021!

Gade nan kwasans pyebwa nou yo! Foto sa yo soti nan forè kominotè nou yo nan Duchity, ke nou te kòmanse rebwaze an 2021. Pandan pye bwa yo ap grandi, manm kominote yo pral kapab itilize yon fason dirab pwodwi forè (manje, bwa, chabon, medikaman, ak plis!) avèk konsèy ekip SRDH la.

Take a look at the growth of our trees! These photos are from our community forests in Duchity, which we began reforesting in 2021. As the trees age, community members will be able to sustainably utilize forest products (food, wood, charcoal, medicine, and more!) with the guidance of the SRDH team.

SRDH has been planting two community forests since we started our work in 2021. This year, we are excited to announce that we are starting a third community forest! This forest will be on the land of a new farmer, who is part of the SRDH team. This brings the number of farmers we are working with up to 10. We have planted 2700 coffee seedlings in our new forest, with the help of over 43 people - SRDH staff and community partners. Here are some photos of this work!

SRDH ap plante de forè kominotè depi nou te kòmanse travay nou an 2021. Ane sa a, nou kontan anonse ke n ap kòmanse yon twazyèm forè kominotè! Forè sa a pral sou tè yon nouvo kiltivatè, ki fè pati ekip SRDH la. Sa a pote kantite kiltivatè nou ap travay ak jiska 10! Nou te plante 2700 plant kafe nan nouvo forè nou an, avèk èd 43 moun — anplwaye SRDH ak patnè kominotè yo. Men kèk foto travay sa a!

Kounye a nou te konplete fòmasyon pou 5 premye modil yo nan seri fòmasyon an.

Anplis materyèl Open Standards yo, fòmatè nou yo te ajoute kontni sou fè yon analiz SWOT (Fòs, Feblès, Opòtinite, ak Menas), ansanm ak yon fòmasyon sou Sèvis Ekosistèm ak Konsèvasyon Biodivèsite nan pwojè agroforestry. Gade kèk nan foto yo nan seri fòmasyon an!

On March 3 and 4 2025, we continued capacity building trainings to strength the capacity of SRDH staff and local organizations, based on the Open Standards for Conservation. We had 29 participants, including university students. In fact, there was so much interest in these trainings that we were obligated to restart the series and record videos of the trainings, to be shared with others who could not attend in person. We have now completed trainings for the first 5 modules in the training series.

In addition to the Open Standards materials, our trainers added content on conducting a SWOT analysis (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats), as well as a training on Ecosystem Services and Caonservation of Biodiversity within agroforestry projects. Take a look at some of the photos from the training series!
