Our microloan program launched on April 22nd with just 5 women. Thanks to our faithful donors, in less than five months we have expanded to 26 women in the program, each receiving a one-time loan of $200 USD.
Even better, through monthly loan repayments, we’ve already been able to reinvest and fund 5 additional microloans—bringing our total to 31 loans issued to date!
With 43 additional women currently on our waiting list, the need and desire for economic empowerment in Maliarette remain immense.
Access to capital allows these women to launch or expand small businesses—selling food, poultry, cassava bread, and new or secondhand clothes and shoes—improving their family's well-being and strengthening the entire community.
Appolon recently visited several of the women at the Pignon Market. He spoke with Viergelie, who sells cassava bread, a traditional flatbread made from the root vegetable cassava (also known as yuca or manioc). It can be eaten plain or used to make sandwiches, wraps, and other dishes. It is also often served with soups, stews, and other main courses. She shared how excited and thankful she is for the support of our donors!
He also caught up with Inose, who sells affordable secondhand shoes for children and adults. Since local parents on low incomes often cannot afford brand-name or new shoes, her business provides a vital resource for families in the community.
