Drs Ric and Wendy Bonnell were in the process of adopting their son, Mackenson, when he developed diabetes. The Bonnells realized that they had never before encountered another child with diabetes in all their years working in Haiti. Dr Chris Carpenter and his wife Lisa Dickey, were caring for a teenage girl with newly-diagnosed diabetes, and had to move her from the hospital to their apartment s

o that she could receiver appropriate care. Our clinic was formed within 6 months to fill the illustrated gap in caring for pediatric chronic diseases.
