Haiti Children's Home

Haiti Children's Home Haiti Children’s Home was founded in 1984 by Patricia Louise Smith of Michigan, USA to care for ill and malnourished children in Haiti.

Over the years, HCH has seen hundreds of children come through our doors, some to be cared for until they are matched with an adoptive family, and many others until they are strong and healthy enough to return to their Haitian families. We are a faith-based mission and funded by various North American churches, friends, and family, as well as the Haitian Children's Aid Society, a charity registere

d in both Canada and the United States, which support Haitian organizations. HCH currently has 16 children in our care ranging in ages of 2-15 years of age. The children are cared for by an amazing team international staff who serve as administrators, nannies, cooks, teachers, activity facilitators, security guards, etc. This is the smallest number of children we have had in care for many years, as we have diligently worked to strengthen our family support programs and facilitate care for children within their family structures. Haiti Children's Home is licensed to do adoptions in Haiti, and currently is working with Canadian and American agencies to match adoptive families with children needing a family. HCH is also blessed to be able to facilitate a number of other programs to support and empower our community, such as the formula program, which provides formula to at-risk families each week, as well as medical care and education as needed. There is also a nutrition program, which provides outpatient treatment for children who are malnourished, and assists children needing specialized medical care. Our most recent program is an educational support program, where we seek sponsors to assist community children to attend school, meeting another specific need in our community. All of these programs have grown over the years, allowing us to support families in crisis, and provide supportive options for families instead of taking children into permanent care.

🇭🇹 Haitian Heritage Month-Vocabulary 🇭🇹

Mo jodi a se Ayiti. 🇭🇹

We begin by honoring the Indigenous people of this land, especially the Taíno, whose presence still lives on in its name, memory, and history.

Before it was called Saint-Domingue under French colonial rule, this land carried an Indigenous name: Ayiti.

After independence, the Haitian people reclaimed that name. Today, Ayiti points back to the same powerful meaning: “land of high mountains” or “mountainous land.”

And this is just the beginning. Each day this month, we’ll be sharing a new word as we celebrate Haiti, Haitian Creole, and the many stories carried in our language.

👶🏾Ti Moise Update👶🏾

Little Mr.M continues to delight his family with how he is growing and changing. 💕
He and his Papa came for their check-in again, and picked up milk to ensure M stays healthy and nourished. His Papa was excited to show off how M is starting to stand (but of course it was tricky to capture in a photo quickly enough!).
Thanks for continuing to pray for and support this little family!

To plant a garden is to believe in tomorrow.
-Audrey Hepburn

A few short months ago, our little HCH family planted a garden.
We planted in a small space, part of a space we were still making home.
A place where trauma and fears were slowly healing and dissipating; where sleep was becoming restful and refreshing again.

And so we planted.

With some joy, and also some trepidation.
Planting meant time. Roots. Hope.

And so we waited and watered and waited.
And of course, inevitably weeded.

We watched fragile shoots pop out of the soil.
Watered them, and protected them from the torrential rains bringing too much water!

Before we knew it buds were growing.
Smiles began to widen. Photos were taken.
And then colors began changing from a swath of green to include a hint of orange-red.

And then it was time.
We plucked the harvest that had grown hope in our hearts as much as it had grown food for our bellies.
And we smiled. And laughed.
And delighted in the immense joy this little garden had brought.
Right when we needed it.

Genesis 1:31
And then God looked upon all He had made, and indeed, it was very good!
