Today Thrive Ansanm students joined Découvrir la Grand'Anse, many people from the city of Jeremie, and several other community organizations to clean Plaj Anse d'Azur. Anse d'Azur is a beautiful natural landmark for the city of Jeremie, a place where people can enjoy themselves year-round, and we were happy to help clean up trash and make the beach more beautiful.

We were honored to have Dr. Nadege Narcisse Lafortune, the leading pediatrician in Jeremie, as our guest speaker for our recent Thrive Ansanm meeting on Saturday, April 25.

Dr. Narcisse shared powerful insights on the value of mentorship, the importance of hard work, and the courage it takes to pursue your calling—no matter the obstacles. Her passion and dedication for her profession are evident in her words and actions.

At Thrive Ansanm, we are committed to empowering young people in Haiti to thrive, and one way we do this is by connecting them with inspiring professionals such as Dr. Narcisse. She embodies the kind of impact we hope our students will one day make in their own professions, and we are deeply grateful for her time, her voice, and her unwavering dedication.

During this meeting, Thrive Ansanm was proud to present Dr. Narcisse with a Certificate of Honor and Merit for her contributions to children’s health and her service to the community of Jeremie.

We also had the honor of presenting Geralda Sylvain, a Thrive Ansanm Mentor, with a Certificate of Excellence for her recent election as the new president of the Rotaract Club de Jérémie, which underlines her outstanding leadership and community engagement.

We extend our congratulations to them both, and we thank them for using their influence to empower young people in Haiti to thrive.

Congratulations to LABADY Macdine and DACILA Marie Darling, two outstanding young Haitian women who are stepping into their futures. They are the most recent graduates supported by the Higher Education and Leadership Program for Haiti (HELP for Haiti) in partnership with Thrive Ansanm. Both earned their nursing degrees from the Institut Supérieur d’Etudes Paramédicales (ISEP), one of the leading nursing schools in the Nippes department.

Macdine and Marie Darling have shown dedication, resilience, and excellence throughout their studies—and Marie Darling was recognized as one of the top laureates of her graduating class.

This milestone is also part of a much larger story. It was only possible because of the lifelong commitment of Coleman (“Coley”) Gorham, who first traveled to Haiti at age 80 and returned again and again over the next two decades. Alongside his wife, Anna, he devoted significant personal resources to expanding educational opportunities for Haitian students. When Coley turned 100 years old, he realized that his time on this earth was coming to an end, so he released his vision and resources to start the HELP organization, and this paved the way for HELP for Haiti’s partnership with Thrive Ansanm.

We are honored to carry forward Coley and Anna’s legacy by supporting promising young leaders like Macdine and Marie Darling, and we wish these two young women all the best as they embark on their nursing careers.

When Haiti is reported on the news, it’s often reduced to statistics about the desperate poverty and the myriad of social problems this causes. But for our country director, Maillard Magloire, these aren’t abstract figures. They are people he knows and cares about: neighbors, friends, families striving to build better lives for themselves and their children.

Yet the need is overwhelming. At Thrive Ansanm, our resources allow us to support only a fraction of those who reach out. For every person we can help, many more must be turned away, and this is what Maillard writes about in his most recent blog post. Please take a moment to read about his firsthand perspective as a local Haitian leader and consider donating to Thrive Ansanm to empower more young people in Haiti to thrive.

On behalf of the entire Thrive Ansanm team, we want to extend our appreciation to the administration of Université de la Renaissance d'Haïti - Campus Jérémie (URH) for receiving us yesterday (April 21, 2026) to discuss our ongoing partnership to empower young people in Haiti, celebrate what we have accomplished so far, and strategize about how we can accomplish even more together in the future.

URH is one of the leading educational institutions in the Grand'Anse department, and we are honored to receive recognition from them for our work in the community. We look forward to continuing to collaborate with URH to invest in the education of the next generation of Haitian leaders. 👏

For the past 18 years, Dr. Marx has served as one of the leading physicians in Jeremie, Haiti. Known for his kindness and positive energy, he took time out of his busy schedule to share with the university students in our program. It was truly inspiring, and we are grateful for leaders like him who are setting an example for the leaders of tomorrow.

It’s no secret that Haiti has been undergoing a severe social, economic, and political crisis for the past several years. The capital is largely controlled by..
