In 2010, after the Earthquake, lots of people came to us for food, water, clothing, tents, etc. They were mostly parents with a family of two (2) 0r more children living in tents. Almost very day their family sends them to our gate for food, clothes, etc. My wife Charlette Bain and I came up with the idea to meet with these children every Saturday to pray, play, and eat a meal together at least
once a week. Since then, we gathered as many as 150 children every Sunday. The children manage to share their stories with each other about where they were on that date January 12, 2010. We sometimes talk about their fear, as well as their present situation living under a tent. We shared many tears during those hard time. Many of them were scared months after that disastrous day of the earthquake. It was a tough time for all of us, especially for some of these children who was still grieving due to losing a close family members or friends
Today, even though the number has decreased to about 60 children, we are still meeting on Saturdays to pray, share a meal, amongst other recreational hobbies. Our activities with them are includes:
Arts and Crafts, dancing, singing, learning to cook, baked, cosmetology, watch a movies, playing soccer, basketball, etc. We are seeking for much support to develop a life skill project for these young and less fortunate children. Providing them with a computer room with internet access, as well as a musical room with musical instruments, etc. We are also looking to start a library for the children as well. Our goal is to open doors fro a brighter future for our children here at Melissa's Hope Foundation. for more information, please visit our website
