Haii: In the early 2000s, Danny Warren arrived in Haiti with a generous heart, eager to contribute to the country's development. Collaborating with his Haitian friends Obei Dolcé, Odule Augustin, Jules Casseus, Bobo Lukaine, Eliance Bastien, Jose Jean-Pierre, and his brother Donald Warren, Dan founded Village Planète, a non-profit organization dedicated to restoring Haiti's coastline through mangrove reforestation. A few years later, his daughter Danielle Grace Warren joined the organization to lead the women's initiative. Under his leadership, Village Planète successfully planted nearly 1 million mangrove trees, restoring over 400 hectares of land along the country’s coastal zones. Dan was deeply commited to community development. During his time in Haiti, he built strong relationships with various communities. In Derac, a locality in northern Haiti, Dan established a women’s center where women could learn sewing, hold meetings, and empowerment. He also provided water to the Derac community by digging wells and set up water tanks on the Village Planète property. Unlike many expatriates, Dan lived and ate alongside the Haitian villagers during his time in Haiti. Dan dedicated himself to improving the lives of the poor, leaving behind a legacy of unforgetable actions. Before his arrival, few people recognized the importance of the mangrove ecosystem. Thanks to Dan’s vision, many technicians were trained in mangrove restoration, several national and international NGOs became involved in reforestation efforts, and even the Haitian government began to show interest in restoring the country’s coastline with mangrove trees. This transformation was made possible by Dan’s dedication to Haiti’s environment. The members of Village Planète and many Haitian villagers from places like Labadee, Derac, and Kanyèt will always remember Dan for his positive impact on both the environment and the lives of countless people. May his soul rest in peace.
