Bonjou! Hello! My name is Peterly Joseph. I live in a rural village in North Haiti called Haut Limbe with my family: my two parents and my five siblings - I am the eldest. My favorite subjects in school include science, English, and Spanish. I am also passionate about helping my community: I am the co manager of a club called the Club des Phares - the Club of Lights, which organizes activities for kids to learn art, crafts, science, and games,creating
Club des Phares was founded in 2013. It was established to help create opportunities for kids in Haut Limbe, Haiti to learn crafts, art, science, songs, and games outside of school. It serves an important role in the community because children here are hungry to learn new things: Club des Phares hosts organized activities, led by older students in our village, that provide an environment for group Learning and fun.
We have many creative ideas for activities and use local resources to put them on. However, our biggest challenge is funding. It costs money to buy the paper, markers, yarn, and other supplies, as well as food to feed the children who participate. Our goals are to expand the club so that more children can engage in it, and to have the resources to host these programs. We also hope to legitimize ourselves by having club T-shirts and other such things.
