People with disabilities on the Island of La Gonâve live in fear and danger every day. Those who rely on wheelchairs, crutches, or walking sticks are forced to cross a canal under life-threatening conditions, with no safety or support. Many are attacked, kidnapped by gangs, or seriously injured while simply trying to obtain basic mobility equipment.
We urgently appeal to all humanitarian organizations: please do not forget the people of La Gonâve, especially persons with disabilities. They deserve safety, dignity, and the chance to live without fear.

L'Association du Secours aux Handicapés et Orphelins (ASHOG) is a Christian non-profit organization devoted to helping the orphaned and the disabled of La Gonâve Island, Haiti.

ASHOG was originally formed in 1996 to help the needy after several disastrous events: the shipwreck of the Okelele motorboat, the Fyete Gonavyen boat, the Kris Vivan sailboat, and others. Many children lost their fathers and mothers and were left living on the streets.

The earthquake of 2010 created even more orphans, and many handicapped and crippled people have since made their way to La Gonâve. Today, many still live without family or friends to support them.

We believe that everyone—individuals, organizations, and institutions—who work toward a new, rebuilt La Gonâve should give special attention to the disabled and orphans. Let us join together to save the children, for they are the wealth and future of Haiti.

ASHOG is Haitian managed and operated, and receives no government support. One hundred percent of donations go directly to help the people of La Gonâve without any overhead being lost to outside organizations.

🌱 Our goal: To provide children with an education. For each $350 raised, a child will be given school tuition in a loving and nurturing environment for a full year.

👉 Imagine this: if 100 people each donate $35, we can raise $3,500—enough to give ten Haitian children a year of education. If 250 people do the same, we will fully meet our goal!

THE STORY:

La Association du Secours aux Handicapés et Orphelines (ASHOG) is a Christian non-profit organization devoted to helping the orphaned and the disabled of La Gonâve Island, Haiti.

ASHOG was originally formed in 1996 to help the needy after several disastrous events happened on La Gonâve: the shipwreck Okelele motorboat, the Fyete Gonavyen boat; the Kris Vivan sailboat; and several other accidents. Many children lost their fathers and mothers and were living in the streets.

The earthquake of 2010 left many more orphans and many handicapped and crippled people who have now made their way to La Gonâve.

They are still living without family or friends to support them. We believe that everyone, all organizations, and all institutions that are working towards and wishing for a new rebuilt La Gonâve should give special thought to the disabled and orphans. Let us join together to save the children because they are the wealth and the future of the country.

ASHOG is a Haitian managed and operated group that receives no government support. One hundred percent of the monies given to ASHOG goes to help the people of La Gonâve Island without any overhead being lost to external organizations.

This fundraiser is to help provide children with an education. For each $350 we can raise, a child will be provided with school tuition in loving and nurturing surroundings for a full year.

Haiti is the poorest country in the Western hemisphere. We all know this. We all heard about the devastation caused by the 2010 quake. I've gotten involved because I discovered I can make a difference. You can make a difference. If we don't, then who will? It is up to us. If you are one of 100 people who read this and all 100 of you donate just $35 today, that will be $ 3 500! That will provide *ten Haitian children with an education they can use to better their country!* *If 250 people* read this *and donate $35, we will have met our goal!* These children are part of our world today. They have something to contribute to our future tomorrow.

Thank you very much for your time and your contribution to this worthy goal.

Dear friends of La Gonave, we are facing a particularly difficult time as we have been unable to pay the teachers of our school for months. The school provides not only education and a community, but also food for many of those who come to school hungry.
Our school is funded by generous and thoughtful donations from people like you, from everywhere in the world, to make possible children’s education and to provide nutritions to those who need them the most.
Here we are asking for help again because our school will face closure if enough donations are not made. At this moment, our goal is to raise US$1270 so we can keep our school open and continue to educate and feed our children.
Please take a moment to think what this means. Your $5, $20, $40 or more can make a huge impact and together, we can reach our goal. We couldn’t do this alone. It was all because people like you have helped that our school have been able to do what we do to help children of La Gonave. Please help and let us continue this amazing work. God bless you and have a wonderful day.
