✨WELCOME HOME, BENAJA✨
After an entire year of receiving chemotherapy in Port-au-Prince for leukaemia, sweet Benaja has finally been given the wonderful news by his oncologist: he was well enough to return to La Gonave and reunite with his family!
For over 365 days, Benaja has been away from home- yet he never complained. Benaja loved the other children in the ward, and he has shown remarkable courage. We love him with our whole hearts. 💯♥️🥰🫶🏾
We also want to honour his incredible teenage sister, Gemina who stayed in Port au Prince for a year. Because the children’s cancer ward had to remain sterile, she couldn’t sleep inside with him.
Instead, she laid out a sheet in the waiting room each night and slept there, so she could visit him daily and so that Benaja knew he wasn’t alone.
Due to extreme gang activity, Gemina was on the hospital compound that entire time, as we felt it was not safe for her to go out.
Every time we thanked her for the sacrifices she is making for her little brother, she said “But that’s what a family is.. and where else would I be?” 🙏🏾🥰
