Today we remember Haiti. 🇭🇹

On 12 January 2010, a magnitude 7.0 earthquake struck Haiti, devastating communities and claiming hundreds of thousands of lives.

Today marks 16 years since that day — a moment that forever changed a nation.

At Okipe, we believe every person carries God-given dignity and worth. Anniversaries like this call us not only to remember loss, but to renew our commitment to justice, compassion, and practical action alongside those who continue to rebuild.

The resilience of the Haitian people reminds us why we exist:

to stand with the vulnerable,
to work for lasting change,
and to ensure hope is not forgotten when headlines fade.

🎁 It’s almost Christmas!

Thank you to everyone who joined us for Okipe’s 12 Days of Christmas Giving! Your generosity over these past days has made a real and immediate difference for the children at The Children’s Village. ❤️ Day 12: Join the Village (Give Monthly)

Each of the 80 children at The Children’s Village has a story of loss — but because of this home, their story is no longer one of abandonment. It’s one of hope, safety, and a future.

But this hope exists only because of faithful monthly supporters who help keep the lights on, the kitchen stocked, and loving caregivers in place. Month after month, this support is what makes it possible for a child to wake up knowing they are safe, fed, and deeply loved.

There are many months where we cannot send the full amount of $6500 each month… Mme. Soliette makes it work and stretches her funds, but we are in desperate need of more monthly supporters for consistent giving.

🍚🫘 Day 11: Rice & Beans Bundle
You may be thinking… wait, I’ve already heard about rice and beans! You’re right - but we’re highlighting this again because food continues to be our GREATEST need at the Children’s Village.
With rising prices and challenges getting supplies to the island, making sure the children receive two meals a day is harder than ever.
Today’s Rice & Beans Bundle goes directly toward keeping our food shelves stocked and our kids nourished. This gift meets an essential, urgent need.

🎓 Day 7: Support our Teachers
Continuing along with the theme of school posts - and at the heart of every school - our teachers! Great teachers help children thrive — and at The Children’s Village School, they’re shaping the futures of more than 200 students each day.

✏️ Day 6: School Supplies
Did you know that Mme. Soliette also runs a school on property? Education is a top priority. She not only educates the 80 children in the village, but also students from the community. There are over 200 students that attend the school!

Although students who attend are asked to pay tuition, no one is turned away if they can’t pay it. Your gift of school supplies equips our students to continue thriving in school.

Ah! We missed Day 5! Get ready for a double day (:

👟 Day 5: Shoes
Mme. Soliette makes sure that each child is well dressed for school each and every day, including a pair of shoes. However, the shoes are often worn out - missing soles, holes, no shoelaces. A new pair of shoes is an incredible gift and one that will be treasured! We have over 80 children in the orphanage - let’s see how many little feet we can protect this Christmas
