Jean-Philippe Rameau’s Les Indes galantes
Les Indes galantes is one of the most celebrated works of the French Baroque stage. First performed at the Paris Opéra in 1735, this opéra-ballet combines a prologue with independent entrées exploring different facets of love in exoticised settings. Renowned for its inventive orchestration and rich variety of vocal and dance forms, the work underwent numerous revisions during Rameau’s lifetime.
The new edition, published in Opera Omnia Rameau (OOR IV.2, 7), restores the version authorised by Rameau in 1736. All other versions are gathered in nineteen appendices, giving performers access to the composer’s revisions while presenting, for the first time, a complete and coherent authorised version in its stylistic and dramatic context.
This vocal score, based on the OOR volume, is published by the Société Jean-Philippe Rameau under the editorial direction of Sylvie Bouissou, with worldwide distribution by Bärenreiter. It includes a keyboard reduction by François Saint-Yves.
