NOVI REGIONALNI RAVNATELJ JRS-A. KONFERENCIJA ZA MEDIJE 🎙️🎥
Danas, uoči Svjetskog dana izbjeglica, predstavili smo našu godišnju izjavu o položaju izbjeglica i migranata u našoj zemlji.
„Posebno cijenim zaposlenike, volontere, dobročinitelje, partnere i prijatelje JRS-a. Pred nama su brojni izazovi. Migracije se mijenjaju, potrebe ljudi postaju sve složenije, a društveni i politički kontekst sve zahtjevniji. Ipak, uvjeren sam da uz iskusan i predan tim te uz podršku naših partnera možemo nastaviti vjerno živjeti poslanje JRS-a“, rekao je.
Dodao je kako će u središtu njegova djelovanja ostati temeljno poslanje JRS-a – pratiti, služiti i zagovarati prava prisilno raseljenih osoba.
„Želimo i dalje stavljati u središte dostojanstvo svake osobe i njezinu jedinstvenu životnu priču.

NEW REGIONAL DIRECTOR - PRESS CONFERENCE 🎙️🎥
Today, on the eve of World Refugee Day, we presented our annual statement on the situation of refugees and migrants in Croatia. During the press conference, we also introduced our new Regional Director for Southeast Europe, Fr. Tomislav Vujeva, while bidding farewell to our outgoing Director, Fr. Stanko Perica.
In the opening part of the conference, we presented a statement highlighting the challenges within the Croatian context and emphasizing the need to foster a culture of encounter, solidarity, and respect for the dignity of forcibly displaced persons.
The full statement is available here:

Conference participants also had the opportunity to hear personal testimonies from beneficiaries of our programs. A woman from Syria spoke about her integration experience and how she and her family are building a new life in Croatia, emphasizing the importance of preserving one's identity while becoming part of a new community. A beneficiary from Ukraine shared her experience of living under temporary protection and pursuing professional integration into Croatian society.
Reflecting on six years at the helm of our organization, Fr. Perica noted that the period had been marked by numerous challenges and significant migration movements. He particularly emphasized the importance of engaging with these issues within both ecclesial and civil society contexts.
“Migrants and refugees are often a polarizing topic in our society. I sought to build a culture of togetherness, because only through cooperation and solidarity can we provide lasting support to people who have been forced to leave their homes. This is why we developed partnerships with numerous civil society and Church organizations for the benefit of our beneficiaries. Through public appearances, lectures, and writings, I also sought to spread Pope Francis’ message of fraternity and a culture of encounter, as well as Pope Leo XIV’s message that migrants are a mirror of our humanity,” he said.
He also announced his departure to Mexico, where from September 2026 until May 2027 he will participate in the so-called Third Probation, the final stage of Jesuit formation.
Our new Regional Director, Fr. Tomislav Vujeva, expressed gratitude to the Croatian Province of the Society of Jesus for the trust placed in him and emphasized that he assumes this responsibility fully aware of its significance.
“JRS is the largest apostolate of the Croatian Province of the Society of Jesus in terms of staff, volunteers, and beneficiaries. I am aware of the responsibility this role carries, but I embrace it with joy and hope,” Fr. Vujeva said.
He noted that he has followed our work for many years and deeply appreciates the dedication of all those who have contributed to building the organization.
“I particularly value the employees, volunteers, benefactors, partners, and friends of JRS. Many challenges lie ahead. Migration patterns are changing, people's needs are becoming increasingly complex, and the social and political context is growing more demanding. Nevertheless, I am convinced that, with an experienced and committed team and the support of our partners, we can continue to faithfully live out the mission of JRS,” he said.
He added that the core mission of JRS—to accompany, serve, and advocate for the rights of forcibly displaced persons—will remain at the center of his work.
“We want to continue placing the dignity of every person and their unique life story at the heart of everything we do. I still have much to learn about the work of our five offices across the region, but I look forward to continuing this important mission,” said our new Regional Director.
In closing, he thanked Fr. Perica for his service and wished him abundant God’s blessings in the continuation of his formation and ministry in Mexico.
