Ameyali - Flor y Canto is a civil association whose goal is to promote Mexican culture through its artistic expressions in Croatia. The name of our association contains elements of Náhuatl, both in its name and in the metaphor of its goal. By building our ground in which was the dominant language before the Spanish conquest, and that is still today, the native language more spoken in Mexico; what
our association pretends is to show the cross-cultural element of Mexican culture. "Ameyali" in Náhuatl means "source" or "spring", and "Flor y Canto" refers to the vision of Náhuatl poetry (in Xochitl, in cuicatl = flor y canto / flower and singing). The Náhuatl poetry as the Mexican culture; reflects, searches for dialogue, tries to find meaning and even when it doesn´t find it, it transforms itself into creation. Poetry and culture are singings adorned with flowers that speak straight to the heart, are an expression of the senses, a representation of our fragile temporary nature. The flower and the singing (“flor y canto”) are our dialogue, our poetry, our culture. Our project does not pretend to build bridges, it doesn´t want to limit itself simply to connect. Our project aims to plant a seed in a fertile soil and sprout a spring ("Ameyali"), so two cultures can feed on singings and blossom together.
