On the European Day of Deafblind People, we celebrate our foundation, which has provided a home to the many member associations that make us who we are.

On this day, we want to remember the goal that was established long before our formation, when in 1999, different associations of deafblind people from the Nordic countries proposed uniting to share and strengthen our collective's struggle.

"The aim of the union is to develop cooperation between the associations of deafblind in all European countries, and at the same time to improve the quality of life for the deafblind."

It is gratifying to know that this purpose has become a fulfilled promise, with the EDbU being an international benchmark in the fight for the rights of deafblind people.

Thanks to all the associations and member entities of our solid union.
Today, we celebrate our deeper bond with this manifesto.

Today, we celebrate the European Deafblind Union, the EDbU.

For this special date EDbU shares Third Manifesto of the European Disability Forum "Empowerment and Leadership": Women and girls with disabilities must be recognised as leaders and changemakers!
You can find the full text as a photo in the comments, but the whole text will be published on the official EDbU web page.

Also, EDbU team created this video of congratulations for this special Day to all women globally! The messages were sent by two powerful Bulgarian women who proactively make this world a better place every day. Thank you! The description of the video is at the end of this announcement.

Dear ladies, give smiles,
shed their wondrous light!
The smile keeps the fire in every house,
in an instant warms an ice wall!

In the smile is the female magic,
the medicine for the sick soul,
love nest with it, once you've made,
you will never be alone -
a woman blessed!

“I would rather walk with a friend in the dark,
than alone in the light.”
Helen Keller

The content of the message is: "Happy holiday, dear ladies, let's be proud to be women! From a gentle girl, to a woman mother, a woman professional, a woman leader!” The following part shows Mrs. Katya Parapanova that uses sign language and sends the same message as Mrs. Draganova. After that there is a statement - in yellow letters on a blue background: "Happy International Women's Day!" Video finishes with EDbU logo.

Congratulations to our colleagues from Belgium!!!

In the Netherlands the Dutch Deafblind Connexion started an unique collaboration with American John Butterflies and the Van Gogh museum in Amsterdam!

With this project deafblind people are asked to make something themselves. Not just anything, the project is intended to show the world that deafblind people can also make a contribution. That they also have their own talents, which may be seen.

In october they are going to make art in the museum with art materials collected by John.

Francisco Trigueros’ intervention before the Global Tools for the Protection of the Rights of People with Disabilities: ‘Sign Language and Comunicacion access is often overlooked by the European Commission, but when it comes to Deafblind people, the provision of Deafblind interpreters or other means of access to communication, we’re always backwards, the last standing at the last line.
