🇪🇺 Projekt sufinancira Europska unija.

⚙️ Kick-off meeting for the "Legacies of dissent" project in Barcelona
Documenta has started its new project "Legacies of dissent: Europe's democratic transitions as a lesson for today". Last week the project team had its first meeting, hosted by colleagues from the Faculty of geography and history in Barcelona.
✍ Through collection of testimonies, educational activities for high school and university students and media literacy workshops, the project explores freedom of expression and the media, human rights, and civil initiatives during periods of war and democratic transition.
📰 The project brings together different national contexts of democratization: the Spanish transition from dictatorship to democracy, starting with the death of Francisco Franco in 1975, the Peaceful Revolution of 1989 in Germany and the German reunification, the collapse of the communist regime in Albania and the turbulent transition to democracy in the 1990s, and the break-up of Yugoslavia and the wars of the 1990s that defined Bosnia and Herzegovina’s, Croatia’s and Serbia’s paths towards democracy and independence.
📝 As part of the project, in the spring of 2027 young journalists from all over Europe will have the chance participate in a training in Sarajevo and in the autumn of 2027 another international training for teachers will be held in Tirana. In 2028, the collected testimonies will be presented at an exhibition in Dresden and a festival in Zagreb will promote all project results.
🤝 The project brings together partners from Albania (IDMC), Bosnia and Herzegovina (BIRN), Germany (Bautzner Strasse Memorial), Serbia (Association of History Teachers), Spain (University of Barcelona, Faculty of Geography and History) and will be coordinated by Documenta (Croatia).
🇪🇺 This project is co-funded by the European Union.
