🌿♻️ INTERREG CENTRAL EUROPE – BIOECO-UP PROJECT MEETING IN BOLOGNA! ♻️🌿

Earlier this month, the Institute for Circular Economy (ICE) participated in the BIOECO-UP consortium meeting hosted at the inspiring DAMSLab in Bologna. Together with our project partners, we delved into key project activities shaping the future of the bioeconomy in Central Europe.

Over the course of the meeting, partners presented and discussed progress on:
🔹 Activity 1.3 – Transnational testing of intersectoral cooperation procedures
🔹 Activity 1.5 – Upscaling bioeconomy intersectoral cooperation
🔹 Activity 2.4 – Transnational bioeconomy experience for citizens
🔹 Activity 3.3 – Capitalizing BIOECO-UP learnings to the BIOEAST initiative
🔹 Activity 1.4 – Organisation of the transnational Bioeconomy Product Fair
🔹 Activity 3.4 – Shaping the bioeconomy future
…as well as finance, communication and other administrative tasks essential for smooth project implementation.

But the highlight of the meeting was unquestionably the study visits that followed. 🚀

🍇 DAY 2: Visit to Caviro Extra (Faenza)
We explored the impressive Caviro Extra plant, part of Italy’s leading wine cooperative. Caviro excels in circular innovation by transforming over 600,000 tons of wine-production waste (marc and lees) and public green waste (prunings, composting rejects) into valuable products:
✨ alcohols
✨ natural tartaric acid
✨ musts
✨ oenocyanin
✨ dried grape seeds

Residual waste is then fed into their Extra Eco-energy unit, where biodigestion produces biogas, which is upgraded to biomethane, along with captured CO₂ for the beverage sector.
Their philosophy says it all: “With Caviro, the past fuels the future.”

🌊 Visit to Micoperi Blue Growth (Ravenna)
Together with our external stakeholders, we also visited the Micoperi Blue Growth plant, where innovative blue-bioeconomy solutions are being developed.

🌍 DAY 3: Ecomondo Fair
We concluded our trip with a visit to Ecomondo, Europe’s leading event for green technologies and the circular economy—always a fantastic source of inspiration.

🌱 COFARM4CITIES Partner Meeting in Krakow 🇵🇱

End od September partners of the COFARM4CITIES project gathered in beautiful Krakow for an inspiring three-day partner meeting focused on advancing urban farming-based sustainable land use across Central Europe. Partners explored progress on thematic work packages, upcoming engagement events, and communication activities.

🍃 ICE (Institute for Circular Economy) played a leading role in Day 2, facilitating the Joint Post-Pilot Comparative Analysis and Evaluation Workshop (D.1.4.1) — a key step in assessing pilot outcomes and lessons learned.
Based on this session, ICE has since prepared a deliverable report, whose findings will directly contribute to developing the Urban Farming-based Sustainable Land Use (UFSLU) Model — a transferable framework adaptable to cities’ diverse realities across Central Europe.

🌿 Partners also had the chance to explore Krakow’s green initiatives:

- the “Edible Krakow” community gardens and historical green spaces,

- school gardens,

- “Pod Gwiazdami” community garden, where participants met garden operators, and

took part in creative workshops at the Center of Ecological Education “Symbiosis.”

💬 The meeting fostered collaboration, exchange of best practices, and set the direction for the project’s final phase — ensuring that urban farming continues to grow as a driver of sustainable urban transformation.
