Astronomsko društvo "Anonymus"

Astronomsko društvo "Anonymus" Astronomsko društvo "Anonymus" nalazi se u Valpovu (pored Osijeka). // Astronomical society "Anonymus" is situated in Valpovo, Croatia. (ENG.)

Astronomical society ANONYMUS is a non-profit group of citizens with a goal to popularize astronomy and science generally, to connect with similar organizations world-wide, to tutor and care about talented youth and to organize courses, excursions, meetings and astronomy-related public events. It is not what you can call an observatory or something like that, it's just a small group of people inte

rested in amateur astronomy, who wish and can expand their knowledge. We have had many meetings so far, many activities since this group was first gathered. A small group of people first met in 1994, as an unregistered society. Since then, club has been evolving, gathering new members (especially the youth). Finally in 2001, few of our godfathers decided to registry as a real society. From that point some things have changed. The club wasn't really provided by town finances, but we managed by organizing observations, lot's of activities, all that to increase the popularity of astronomy in Valpovo, and other near cities. Our latest activity was a public observation at the Normann-Prandau castle, 30th of August. Before that we organized "Osjeèko ljeto mladih" in Osijek, promenade near hotel Osijek. That was more of a presentation of our club to the citizens of Osijek. We had our own stand and we were selling Sky maps (Mars, Venus), and space magazines. At the end of 2001. members of an unregistered astronomy club decided to make a huge step and register our group as an astronomical society. At the meeting (on your right) were everyone who had anything to do with astronomy and our group. Of all the activities over the recent years, we would like to point out our expedition to Balaton (Hungary) to observe the total solar eclipse in 1999., as well as the one 7 years later in Turkey (March, 2006.) Anonymus encouraged the foundations of dozents of other sections and societies throughout the state with participating in our biggest project ever called "Given Sky" (original: "Nebo na poklon"). This project saw many young students gathered around main subjects of astronomy and observations.

WISPIT 2b: Exoplanet Carves Gap in Birth Disk (APOD: 2025 Aug 27)

Explanation: That yellow spot -- what is it? It's a young planet outside our Solar System. The featured image from the Very Large Telescope in Chile surprisingly captures a distant scene much like our own Solar System's birth, some 4.5 billion years ago. Although we can't look into the past and see Earth's formation directly, telescopes let us watch similar processes unfolding around distant stars. At the center of this frame lies a young Sun-like star, hidden behind a coronagraph that blocks its bright glare. Surrounding the star is a bright, dusty protoplanetary disk -- the raw material of planets. Gaps and concentric rings mark where a newborn world is gathering gas and dust under its gravity, clearing the way as it orbits the star. Although astronomers have imaged disk-embedded planets before, this is the first-ever observation of an exoplanet actively carving a gap within a disk -- the earliest direct glimpse of planetary sculpting in action.

Don’t miss this celestial event on Jan 25, 2025!

Skywatchers are in for a celestial treat as six planets — Mars, Jupiter, Venus, Saturn, Neptune, and Uranus — will all be visible in the night sky.

Of course, you will also be able to see this event tonight, as the planets will be making an appearance for almost all of January 2025. But in case you already have evening plans tonight, I wanted to make this little post to give you a warning to mark your calendar for tomorrow — to make sure you save some time to catch it before the month ends 🙂

While Mars, Jupiter, Venus, and Saturn are visible to the naked eye, spotting Neptune and Uranus requires a telescope. The best time to start watching this astronomical event is shortly after sunset, to ensure that you catch all the planets.

So, mark your calendars and look to the skies!
