Digital literacy enables up-to-date sleep medicine in inclusive healthcare Wake up it’s Time for Sleep – become the European Sleep Expert of Tomorrow

Project eSleep_dHealth aims to transform three esteemed European universities into drivers of social innovation in digital healthcare and sleep medicine. The primary objective is to develop a joint training program co-created by project partners. This program will cover advances and challenges in digital healthcare, with a focus on the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of sleep disorders. Addit

ionally, it will address challenges in implementing digital solutions for the elderly population, considering their potential lack of digital literacy. The project includes the creation of a new curriculum and open educational resources specifically tailored to digital sleep medicine. A Social Innovation Toolkit for Digital Sleep Medicine will be developed as a step-by-step guide to support the transformation of higher education institutions into drivers of social innovation. Furthermore, a Joint Interdisciplinary Student Social Innovation Incubator will bring together students from different study programs (medicine, psychology, and technical fields) across three countries. These students will collaborate with mentors and experts to develop innovative solutions aimed at mitigating the digital divide, and these solutions will be tested by end-users, specifically the elderly. Ultimately, the overarching goal of the eSleep_dHealth Project is to facilitate the digital transformation of healthcare, enhance the digital readiness of students and staff, and improve the digital literacy of society at large. Second Learning Expedition and Fourth Project Conference Mark the Culmination of the eSleep_dHealth Project

The Second Learning Expedition of the eSleep_dHealth project successfully concluded last Friday in Split, marking the end of the Social Innovation Incubator. This event represented the culmination of a months-long journey during which students from Croatia, Greece, and Iceland collaborated to address real-world challenges in sleep medicine and digital health.

Working in international teams, students designed digital solutions to raise awareness of sleep apnea, helping individuals better recognize symptoms and seek timely care.

The Second Learning Expedition also served as an opportunity to host the Fourth Project Conference, during which an Info Session was held to present the project’s key results and achievements. As part of the conference, a Demo Day took place, where student teams pitched their innovative solutions to a panel of experts.

Congratulations to the winning team, Sleep Experts, with their solution Smart Sleep Sensing!

This milestone highlights the power of education, collaboration, and innovation in driving meaningful change in digital health.

The Second Learning Expedition of the eSleep_dHealth project has officially begun! 🎉

Yesterday’s opening ceremony took place at the Mediterranean Institute for Life Sciences in Split, marking the start of an inspiring week where international student teams from Croatia, Iceland, and Greece will collaborate on real-world health challenges.

💡 Their mission: to address a critical unmet need in sleep medicine.
Many people with sleep apnea remain undiagnosed, often depending on family members to recognize the signs. Students are challenged to design a digital solution that raises awareness of sleep apnea, empowering individuals to identify symptoms early and seek timely medical care.

🚀 This Learning Expedition also represents the final stage of the Social Innovation Incubator, where students apply everything they have learned throughout the programme and transform their ideas into practical solutions.

🎤 The journey will conclude with a Demo Day, where student teams will pitch their solutions to a panel of experts, and the most promising innovation will be selected.

Stay tuned as we follow their journey of creativity, collaboration, and impact in digital health! 🌍✨

✅ The First Learning Expedition of the eSleep_dHealth project held from 3 to 7 July at the University of Crete!

🎓 Over the course of five inspiring days in Heraklion, students from Croatia, Iceland, and Greece worked in international teams to strengthen their entrepreneurial knowledge and skills.

💡 Their focus was on developing innovative solutions addressing a key challenge in sleep medicine:
Improving CPAP therapy compliance, especially among older adults.

Guided by the NetHub team, students engaged in design thinking workshops to shape and refine their ideas. They conducted interviews with older individuals to better understand their needs, and incorporated this feedback to prototype and test their solutions.

🎤 On the final day, teams pitched their concepts to a panel of experts in sleep medicine and digital health, receiving valuable feedback and encouragement to keep innovating.

📍The journey continues! The Second Learning Expedition will take place this September in Split, where students will build on their experience and take their ideas to the next level.

Stay tuned! 🌙💡🌍
