Sharing the manna of selfhood – healing through the spoken word
A collection of tales documenting the efficacy of the work of Tellers without Borders
To stimulate and encourage the next generation: material to spread the word
“Sent from the diversity of nature into the jeopardy of a solitariness beset by inherent chaos, man timidly and secretly searches for an affirmation of being that can only be given by one person to another; face to face each extends the manna of selfhood.”
Martin Buber
(translated from German by Richard Martin)
The efficacy of stories and oral storytelling
As Tellers without Borders we encounter people whose fate has thrown them into distress. Working through the spoken word, with fairytales and stories, we encourage and strengthen their sense of self. It is often connected with a suppressed or lost connection to oneself, to the source of one’s being which enables creative action. Moreover, it is only when one’s own centre of being is secure that others can be appreciated and respected. Our stories and images recall the sense of belonging to a humanity of interlocking individuals which, in spite of the chaotic and often horrifying world, still strives to do good.
Something of the work of Tellers without Borders is collected here and presented in a literary form to show how stories can touch and heal. It was always a process of dialogue in real encounters which enabled a turning point of a positive development for those concerned. The tales are always primarily concerned with chaotic or stressful situations from which healing or insight grows.
Tellers without Borders wish to share these stories. May they stimulate and encourage all to delve into the powerful images of fairytales and myths, whether from personal experiences or archetypal images, and to tell them to others.
