What happens when a project ends?

For DIH Innovamare, the answer is simple: the real impact begins.

On 17 June 2026, partners and stakeholders gathered at Technology park ADRIA TECH in Šibenik for the final conference of the DIH InnovaMare project, reflecting not only on what was achieved, but on how these results continue to create value across the Adriatic region.

Capitalisation is much more than preserving project outputs. It is about transforming knowledge, networks, infrastructure and partnerships into new opportunities, new projects and long-term regional impact.

🌊 As a strategic Interreg Italy-Croatia project, DIH InnovaMare in 2023 laid the foundations for a cross-border innovation ecosystem in marine technologies and blue economy. It established Living Labs, testing and validation infrastructure, innovation support services, educational programmes and a strong network of partners from academia, industry, public authorities and innovation organisations.

🦾 The impact of these results is already visible. The DIH Innovamare ecosystem has become the foundation for a new generation of projects, including DIH InnovaMare, MareSkill - Smart and innovative blue skills for competitive blue economy, Innovablue and ROBONET CBC, which directly build upon the knowledge, partnerships, methodologies and capacities developed through the strategic project.

🤝 These initiatives have brought together 3 Interreg programmes, 31 partners and 13 Associated partners from 8 countries, securing almost 6 million EUR in additional funding and ensuring that the Innovamare ecosystem continues to grow beyond the lifetime of the original project.

As the 4th Call for Capitalisation Projects under the Interreg Italy-Croatia Programme is now open, the conference highlighted exactly why capitalisation matters: successful projects should not stop with their final deliverables. Their real value lies in their ability to create new opportunities, inspire new initiatives and generate sustainable impact.

Because the true measure of a strategic project is not what it delivers during implementation, but what it makes possible afterwards.

• slanje informacija lučkim upravama, nacionalnim parkovima, marinama i službama sigurnosti u stvarnom vremenu.

🎯 Cilj nije više kontrole radi kontrole.
Cilj je sigurnije more, manje nesreća, bolja zaštita ljudi i očuvanje osjetljivih morskih ekosustava.

🌊 Jadran je jedan od najvrjednijih resursa koje imamo. Ako koristimo tehnologiju za upravljanje prometom na cestama i u zraku, vrijeme je da ozbiljno počnemo razmišljati kako je koristiti i na moru.

🚀 Future-ready careers are being built today.

From satellite monitoring and AI-powered analytics to remote maritime surveillance, the way we protect and manage our seas is rapidly evolving.
Soon, an inspector based in Šibenik could monitor and detect illegal fishing activities hundreds of kilometers away, without leaving the office.

🦾 As technology transforms the maritime sector, the demand for digital, analytical, and technical skills continues to grow. Investing in education and innovation today means preparing the workforce for the jobs of tomorrow.

What better way to close this inspiring Water Week in Croatia hosted by DIH Innovamare than by connecting two powerful moments - European water innovation in Zadar and community action in Murter.

This week in Zadar, leading innovators, researchers, entrepreneurs and changemakers from across Europe gathered at the EIT Water Business Creation Roadmap Workshop to tackle one of the biggest challenges in the water, marine and maritime sectors: how to ensure groundbreaking ideas don’t stop at the concept stage, but become real solutions with lasting impact.

Together, the community explored the barriers between innovation and implementation, discussing new pathways for entrepreneurship, scaling and cross-sector collaboration that will help shape EIT Water’s future Business Creation Mechanism, opening new opportunities for water innovators across Europe.

But the true strength of the water community is not only in strategy rooms and workshops, it is also found on the shorelines, in local communities, and in the hands of future generations.

The “Sretno more” (Happy Sea) initiative brought together children, citizens, educators, divers and environmental organizations in a shared mission to protect the sea. Through educational activities led by Argonauta, beach and underwater clean-up actions, and the use of innovative technologies such as the autonomous vessel Faust V, participants learned how everyday behaviour directly impacts marine ecosystems.

From European leaders shaping the future of water innovation in Zadar to children and local communities actively caring for the Adriatic in Murter, this is what real impact looks like.

Innovation. Education. Community. Action.

Because protecting our waters starts with all of us. 💙

A safer, more resilient Mediterranean will depend on innovation, cooperation, and smart environmental monitoring.

🌊 At the MED 9 Environment Ministers’ Meeting in Šibenik, Innovamare showcased how autonomous technologies and advanced monitoring systems can support the protection of marine ecosystems.

🤝 Together with the “Josip Juraj Strossmayer” Water Institute, we demonstrated an integrated system combining:
• autonomous surface vessels
• water drones
• advanced microplastic sampling technologies
• interoperable real-time environmental monitoring

🦾 The demonstration highlighted how AI, robotics, and green technologies can contribute to smarter water management, faster environmental response, and a more sustainable future for the Adriatic and the Mediterranean.

Our CEO, Mateo Ivanac, joined the Annual Meeting of Water Valley Denmark to share a few reflections on current European priorities in water innovation and the emerging role of EIT Water.

🌊 The discussion focused on a challenge many across the sector recognize: Europe already has strong technologies and innovative ideas but the bigger issue is how to deploy and scale them faster across different regions and ecosystems. That is why it is important connecting innovators, testing environments, utilities, research organizations, and industry partners more effectively across Europe.

🤝 It was great to be part of a discussion bringing together so many relevant stakeholders from across the water sector and to exchange perspectives on how stronger European collaboration can help turn innovation into real impact.

Thanks to Janni Thusgaard, Camilla Fænø Simonsen, and the Water Valley Denmark team for the invitation and excellent organization.

Looking forward to the future collaboration.
