The EIT Water & Grundfos Foundation - PDJF Regional Hackathon in Zadar is now open to the whole blue economy, not only water management.

Up to 30% of treated water can disappear before it ever reaches a tap — lost to leaks utilities can't pinpoint, ageing pipes, and blind spots in monitoring.

At the EIT Water & Grundfos Foundation - PDJF Hackathon at Sveučilište u Zadru /University of Zadar (5 November), teams pick from three real challenge tracks brought directly by water utilities:

No made-up case studies. These are problems utilities are dealing with right now, and they want your solution.

🤔 What is happening below the surface is often difficult, expensive and time-consuming to inspect.

At Innovamare Technologies, we provide underwater drone inspection and filming services, enabling faster and safer access to underwater areas without the need to immediately deploy divers.

👇The service can be used for:

• inspection of ports, marinas and underwater infrastructure
• monitoring of mooring systems, quay structures, cables and pipelines
• inspection around aquaculture sites
• detection and localisation of waste and pollution on the seabed
• documentation of seabed conditions before and after works
• environmental monitoring and visual surveys of specific locations
• support to divers by locating objects and defining areas for intervention

Each mission can include underwater video recording, localisation of findings, documentation and a structured report, depending on the customer's needs.

This allows ports, municipalities, marinas, utilities, aquaculture operators and protected-area managers to obtain information about underwater conditions faster, more safely and with significantly simpler field deployment.

🔬 It’s European Researchers’ Night. 🌊

A night celebrating research, the people behind it, and the ways science can make a difference in our everyday lives. Across Europe, researchers are opening the doors to their work and bringing science closer to society.

🦾 At DIH Innovamare, we believe that bringing research closer to society also means helping good ideas move beyond research and towards real-world use.

That is also the idea behind the EIT Water & Grundfos Foundation - PDJF Regional Hackathon 2026, taking place at Sveučilište u Zadru / University of Zadar on 5 November. We are inviting innovative teams working on water, marine and maritime challenges to develop a proof of concept, work with mentors, pitch to an expert jury and compete for cash prizes worth more than €5,000.

So, even though it is a Researchers’ Night we are celebrating today, here’s a little reminder:

Water utilities across the Adriatic lose millions of litres a year to leaks they can't even locate.💧
We're still looking for the teams who want to fix that.

The EIT Water & Grundfos Foundation - PDJF Hackathon is heading to Zadar on 5 November — and applications close 15 October, so there's still time, but not a lot of it.

What you're working with: real challenges from real water utilities — leak detection, freshwater monitoring, predictive infrastructure maintenance. Not hypotheticals.
