[Greencademy 2.0]

🌱 From forest trails to smart gardens and cooperative housing, the final four days of Greencademy 2.0 in Croatia brought more opportunities to connect sustainability with youth work!

🌳 Day 4 | Learning outdoors
A guided forest programme with games and orientation activities took our learning outside, creating space for cooperation, exploration and connecting with nature. The afternoon at Hotel Frankopan offered time to relax and strengthen connections within the group.

🐟 Day 5 | Rivers, farming and local heritage
At Aquatika, Karlovac’s freshwater aquarium, we explored the biodiversity of Croatian rivers and the role of environmental education. We then visited OPG Kovač in Jaškovo to learn about organic farming. Our day ended at Restaurant Žganjer with the story of Štrudlafest and Jaškovo’s Guinness World Record strudel, an example of how local food, tradition and cooperation can bring a community together.

💡 Day 6 | Ideas for more sustainable communities
With Milan Medić, we explored LEADER and community-led local development, looking at how local people can shape their area’s future. Two young entrepreneurs introduced Smart Garden, connecting technology, growing plants and education through their business idea.

In the afternoon, our guest from the European cooperative MOBA Housing SCE opened a conversation about affordable and sustainable living, introducing cooperative approaches to housing and the importance of community participation.

🤝 Day 7 | Bringing the learning home
We revisited our expectations, reflected on the competences we developed and worked in national teams to connect the visits with our own youth work. What inspired us? What could we adapt at home? How would young people shape it, and what could our first step be? Reflection, final evaluation and a farewell dinner brought the training to a close.

[Greencademy 2.0]

🌱 Three days of Greencademy 2.0 in Croatia: getting to know each other, exploring rural initiatives and connecting sustainability with youth work!

Hosted in Karlovac, our training began with a question we are taking into every visit: what can local initiatives teach us about supporting young people to take action in their communities?

🤝 Day 1 | Building our learning community
Creative introductions and a teamwork challenge helped us get to know each other and explore how we communicate and cooperate. We shared expectations, fears and contributions, explored Youthpass and youth worker competences, and prepared questions for our hosts about local needs, sustainability, opportunities for young people and ideas we could bring into our own youth work.

🌿 Day 2 | Sustainability and community action
We visited Repro Eko in Volavje, a family-run organic farm combining food production, a traditional water-powered mill and rural hospitality. It was the setting for exploring the connections between sustainability, economics and democracy. Together with Maja Čičko from LAG SAVA, we also explored community energy and how local cooperation can help people take an active role in the energy transition.

🐄🐝 Day 3 | Learning from rural businesses
At Sajoma farm, we explored Salers cattle farming and a family business rooted in the countryside. Our next stop was Api-centar Grgurić, where beekeeping meets education and visitor experiences. We rounded off the visits at OPG Vlašić, learning about cattle farming and the role of Local Action Group support in developing rural businesses.

🌍 [RURAL EU]

Od Karlovca i Duge Rese do Rumunjske, Italije i Španjolske!

Jedan projekt, četiri zemlje i četiri potpuno različita pogleda na to što znači živjeti, stvarati i graditi zajednicu u manjim i ruralnim sredinama. 💚

U sklopu projekta Rural EU - Connecting Rural Europe: Networking and development in small towns, tijekom proteklih mjeseci zajedno s partnerima iz Italije, Rumunjske i Španjolske putovali smo Europom, upoznavali lokalne zajednice, razmjenjivali iskustva i, ono najvažnije, gledali kako svaka od naših sredina koristi ono najbolje što ima.

🏡 Sve je počelo kod nas, u Hrvatskoj.

U lipnju smo naše partnere ugostili u Karlovcu i Dugoj Resi i pokazali im dio onoga što naš kraj čini posebnim. Od SUP-a na Mrežnici i upoznavanja prirodnih ljepota našeg područja, preko Grin Festa i energije lokalne zajednice, do skrivenih priča Karlovca i kreativnog druženja uz Sip & Paint, pokušali smo dočarati i da male sredine mogu ponuditi svašta.

A onda je došao red na nas da spakiramo kofere!

✈️ Prva stanica , Rumunjska

Kod partnera iz Consiliul Judeţean Harghita upoznali smo prirodu i lokalnu zajednicu te kroz zajednički program i druženje vidjeli kako se prirodni i lokalni resursi mogu koristiti za povezivanje ljudi i razvoj ruralnog područja.

✈️ Zatim, Italija

Na Siciliji su nas ugostili partneri iz Maghweba, a jedan od glavnih doživljaja bio je Paradiso Film Fest. Kroz festival, lokalne sadržaje i druženje s ljudima iz zajednice upoznali smo kako kultura i događanja mogu oživjeti manje sredine i stvoriti prostor za susret mladih, lokalnog stanovništva i posjetitelja.

✈️ Posljednja stanica, San Xoán de Río

Naše putovanje završili smo u San Xoán de Ríu, kod partnera iz Concello de San Xoán de Río. U maloj galicijskoj sredini upoznali smo lokalne običaje, ljude i način života, a jedan od onih trenutaka koje ćemo definitivno pamtiti bilo je i zajedničko promatranje pomrčine Sunca. 🌒

Četiri zemlje pokazale su nam četiri različite priče. Negdje su najveći adut rijeke i priroda, negdje kultura, festivali, tradicija ili jednostavno ljudi koji žele da se u njihovoj sredini nešto događa.

I upravo je to ono što Rural EU povezuje: ljude koji žele svojim manjim i ruralnim zajednicama dati više prilika, posebno za mlade.

🌍 [RURAL EU]

From Karlovac and Duga Resa to Romania, Italy and Spain!

One project, four countries, and four completely different perspectives on what it means to live, create and build a community in smaller and rural areas. 💚

As part of the Rural EU – Connecting Rural Europe: Networking and development in small towns project, over the past few months we travelled across Europe together with our partners from Italy, Romania and Spain, met local communities, exchanged experiences and, most importantly, discovered how each of our areas makes the most of what it has to offer.

🏡 It all started with us, in Croatia.

In June, we hosted our partners in Karlovac and Duga Resa and showed them some of what makes our area special. From SUP on the Mrežnica River and discovering the natural beauty of our region, to Grin Fest and the energy of the local community, the hidden stories of Karlovac and a creative Sip & Paint gathering, we tried to show that small communities can have plenty to offer.

And then it was our turn to pack our bags!

✈️ First stop – Romania

Hosted by our partners from Consiliul Judeţean Harghita, we discovered the local landscape and community and, through the programme and time spent together, saw how natural and local resources can be used to bring people together and support rural development.

✈️ Next – Italy

In Sicily, we were hosted by our partners from Maghweb, and one of the highlights was Paradiso Film Fest. Through the festival, local activities and time spent with people from the community, we saw how culture and events can bring smaller places to life and create opportunities for young people, local residents and visitors to meet and connect.

✈️ Final stop – San Xoán de Río

Our journey ended in San Xoán de Río, where we were hosted by our partners from Concello de San Xoán de Río. In this small Galician community, we got to know local traditions, people and everyday life, and one moment we will definitely remember was watching the solar eclipse together. 🌒

Four countries showed us four different stories. In some places, the greatest strength is rivers and nature; in others, it is culture, festivals, traditions, or simply people who want things to happen in their communities.

And that is exactly what Rural EU is about: connecting people who want to create more opportunities in smaller and rural communities, especially for young people.

Ako imaš 18+ godina, zanima te održivost, rad s mladima, razvoj lokalne zajednice ili jednostavno želiš naučiti nešto novo kroz praktične aktivnosti i međunarodno iskustvo, tražimo baš tebe! 🙌

Tijekom treninga bavimo se temama poput održivog ruralnog razvoja, lokalnih inicijativa, društvenog poduzetništva, održive poljoprivrede, LEADER pristupa i načina na koje mladi mogu pokrenuti pozitivne promjene u svojoj zajednici. Očekuju te interaktivne radionice, grupni rad, terenski posjeti, upoznavanje lokalnih inicijativa i poduzetnika, razmjena iskustava i druženje s međunarodnom ekipom.😄

Tražimo ekipu za novu avanturu u Palermu! 🇮🇹✨

Otvaramo prijave za međunarodnu razmjenu mladih “ExChange 2026 – Common Ground” koja će se održati u Palermu (Sicilija, Italija) od 27. rujna do 6. listopada 2026. (putni dani: 27. rujna i 6. listopada).

Na razmjeni će se okupiti mladi iz Italije, Španjolske, Hrvatske i Rumunjske. Kroz storytelling, medijsku pismenost i digitalne alate istraživat ćemo:

♻️ kako smanjiti otpad i imati čišće kvartove

🚶 javni prijevoz u gradovima

🏙️ kako oživjeti javne prostore i dati im novi život

Sve to kroz gradske ture, radionice, kreativne zadatke, foto/video sadržaj i puno druženja u internacionalnoj ekipi.

Koga tražimo?
- mlade od 18 do 30 godina
- otvorene, znatiželjne osobe koje zanima grad u kojem žive, okoliš, javni prostori i digitalni mediji
- ljude koji se žele okušati u digitalnom storytellingu i sudjelovati u životu svojih zajednica

ENG🇬🇧: The last steps of our journey ☀️

Day 5: We started the day off with a session about one of the most important and most valuable life skills: the topic of active listening, and the skill of giving and receiving feedback from others. We have immediately put our newly acquired skills to test, with our participants giving presentations (and feedback) on their own project ideas. After this, our participants wrote their love letters of support for the other teams' ideas, discussing along the way their inspirations for the presentations, and letting their imagination take the wheel in answering a very important question: how would they realize their projects if they had an unlimited budget for it? 🫧

Day 6: We have started the last day of the exchange by summarizing what we have learned up to this point, on the topic of the key skills and the Youthpass through Youthpass Islands activity, after which we discussed some ideas regarding our participants' first steps upon their return home. Our participants had a chance to evaluate their experience, while everybody got their own well earned Youthpass certificates. 😄

This last week we had a wonderful opportunity to get to know each other, to learn crucial skills important both to our future projects, and to everyday communication, and we got to grow together from our shared experiences. We are grateful for this amazing journey, and for the wonderful time we have spent with our delightful participants! Cheers to many more such beautiful experiences, and goodbye until next time! 👋🫶
