Breaking Chains was established in January 2009 as a way to reach out to the marginalized, street population in the capital city of Honduras.

The ministry’s mission is to serve and seek change for those affected by urban poverty in Tegucigalpa by meeting basic needs and developing relationships that act as a gateway toward a relationship with Christ.

Today we celebrated Children's Day at our church in Montes de Bendicion. It was a full house for "arroz con pollo", cake and fun. The sweetest part was watching kids step into leading through prayer, reading scripture, and song. Their brave, tiny voices remind us that they are not only the church of the future but the church of today.

We are thrilled to implement new, nutritious (typically too expensive) food into our programs thanks to our Banco de Alimentos partnership.

Happy Children’s Day to our group of incredible kids. We are grateful for them and the parents, staff, teachers, sponsors and many others who make it all possible.

Our long-term residential program gives our young people a safe place to call home and experience community. Many of them don’t have other places or family to fall back on. With us, they find help to stabilize and in many cases process and find healing.

We appreciate all those who invest in this program and in our residents. They have often felt rejected, and it means everything to find a place and people to call home.

We know investing in a mother, who carries the weight of her family, will produce better outcomes for the whole system. Grades will improve, anxiety decreases, and everyone feels a little lighter. This week we not only resumed our normal activities post summer, but we also introduced an educational time on email and its place in their children’s schools. One of our favorite activities is listening to them laugh, only second to watching them support each other.

This sweet girl will make one of the best therapists in a country who needs them desperately. She had her first practice client yesterday for one of her upper-level college classes. Providing for her education not only provides for her future, it helps her family, and she will provide quality mental health care for future generations.
