Breaking Chains Honduras

Breaking Chains Honduras Breaking Chains was established in January 2009 as a way to reach out to the marginalized, street population in the capital city of Honduras.

The ministry’s mission is to serve and seek change for those affected by urban poverty in Tegucigalpa by meeting basic needs and developing relationships that act as a gateway toward a relationship with Christ.

Our summer team season has come to a close, and we want to take a moment to say THANK YOU to every group and team member who gave their time, energy, and hearts this summer. We appreciate the encouragement and love you shared in addition to all your hard work. We thank God for the opportunity to work alongside one another in service to Honduras.

Our staff continually search for ways to make our residents feel seen through connections in the simplest ways. We are so grateful for staff member Dennis and his intentional way of serving as much more than a bus driver. He is an example for our residents of stability they have rarely experienced in their past.

This group fights so hard, and we are so proud of how they have displayed this all summer in our tutoring program. These mamas have pushed hard to instill motivation in their children as they work on their own struggles, and this shows in their children’s higher confidence levels and overall GPA.

We also are grateful for Gabriela, one of our newest staff members, who serves with grace, love and commitment as our scholarship-program assistant. She is a teacher with bilingual experience, and her heart and knowledge serve our children greatly.

Thank you, Kingwood Church of Christ, for all your hard work and kindness. You helped us in our tutoring program, created beautiful work projects in our building, fed families, built houses, created meaningful connections and heard the stories of people we serve in each of our programs and loved so many people alongside us. Until next time!

We reached over 600 families with groceries in the past three months, and we feel so grateful to every volunteer team who decided to make this a part of their giving and time spent in our community this summer. We thank Kingwood Church of Christ for spending their last day fully engaged in our food insecurity efforts, building a house and other projects. It was a blessed last day with all of them.

Kids need encourage and connection to produce motivation, and as a part of our scholarship program we create that through field trips as well as other one-on-one time. We thank the group from Kingwood Church who value this connection and wanted to help us take the kids to the children’s museum today.

Thank you, Northwest, for a week of blessing others with housing and food security, allowing our kids, moms and residents to feel seen and beloved, and an amazing final day at the water park and playing soccer. We will miss you until next year!

We had a full day with Northwest Church yesterday around our building. This team has many traditions with our kids and young adults we have formed with them over the years. We are so grateful for their baking, art, food-insecurity support, participation in our tutoring program, and overall willingness to make beautiful connections with our BC family. We look forward to more activities with them this week!
