Breaking Chains Honduras

Breaking Chains Honduras Breaking Chains was established in January 2009 as a way to reach out to the marginalized, street population in the capital city of Honduras.

The ministry’s mission is to serve and seek change for those affected by urban poverty in Tegucigalpa by meeting basic needs and developing relationships that act as a gateway toward a relationship with Christ.

This boy deserves all the celebration today for his heart and constant ability to try again. He has learned to persevere without ceasing. As his teachers said in their description, he is the most noble, kind and silly kid. We are so proud to be a small part of his story yet to be written.

Let us introduce Brayden Olson and Dylan Jimenez, our interns for the next few months. They hit the ground running and have already impressed us with their willingness to serve and share their faith. We are excited to see what God does in and through them as they share their talents with our ministry this summer.

We asked Sunshine School if they could let parents know back in March we were accepting new donations. They decided to make it a school-wide project led by their junior class throughout the month of April. The donations took over our storage closet. Then Memorial Road Campus Ministry helped us sort it all and added a grocery giveaway to the mix. When community steps up with humility and without pretext, the results can feel pretty joyful.

We made a weighted decision four months ago to pull these girls out of traditional school and create a hybrid homeschool program for them. With the help of two staff teachers, supervisors, two outside tutors, their fiercely loyal mothers, and a lot of hard conversations and motivation, these girls have managed to catch up and gain a belief in themselves. Today they conversed in English with a visitor all be it timidly, but they did it. We are so proud of how far they have come, and we will continue to search for the best steps for them as they move back to traditional school in August. Sometimes you need to see the person, be willing to take a leap and make needed changes to give someone their best shot.

On this day we celebrate all the women who continue to fight for a future for those we serve every day. We celebrate the mamas but also those who serve as mothers for hearts who desperately need them. We commend your dedication despite all the reasons to give up or go through the motions. You fill voids and feed motivation for sweet ones who need you more than you will ever know. Happy Mother’s Day!

The group from Oklahoma Christian University School of Nursing helped us celebrate some wonderful mothers with a health day, lunch and grocery give away. We hope this Mother’s Day they feel some intentional love and temporary food relief for a few days. Thank you to the crew from the OC nursing program for sharing your skills and hearts with some well deserved moms.

We are so grateful to the Memorial Road Campus Ministry for how they pour into all of us - from our leadership team and their families, our young adults, our friends on the street downtown, the Montes community, our program families, the schools where our program kids attend and their staff, our tired and weary college students and all the way to our always-serving-rarely-being-served staff. We don’t take it for granted, and we are thankful for each of you beyond sufficient words. Still two work days left!

We started off group season with a bang yesterday jumping our hearts out with our scholarship students, young adults, and MRCC and today hosting a rural medical clinic with the OC nursing students. We've also worshipped together, kicked off our summer vbs program with 110 kids, and fed the homeless. It's going to be an exciting summer. We're excited to see what God does in the hearts and minds of our mission teams and the people we serve.
