The Rotary Club of Kelowna Ogopogo is incredibly proud of our long-standing partnership with the Help Honduras Society. Okanagan Rotary clubs have been working in Tegucigalpa for over 35 years, and it is humbling to witness the lasting, generational change our collective support is creating.
This year, 415 young people received the support they need to attend school, including uniforms, books, tutoring, and tuition. But our commitment goes beyond the classroom. Through this program, families also receive access to free medical visits and essential training in nutrition, home finance, and anti-violence.
We are constantly inspired by the success stories of the students we help:
A shining example of the program's success, Fani recently graduated with her nursing degree and is now working as a professional nurse in her community.
After being sponsored for 15 years, she is now attending university, studying chemistry and pharmacy with the goal of earning her Doctorate. Her family is a testament to the program's success—her mother even learned to read and write through the program's literacy initiatives.
Today, there are 29 students supported by these scholarships attending university, pursuing degrees in engineering, teaching, business, and more.
One of the most rewarding aspects of this project is its sustainability. Through small business training, many mothers are learning to manage their home finances and earn sufficient funds to eventually cover their children's tuition, creating space to welcome new students into the program.
Our club is proud to contribute $5,000 annually to help fill critical gaps and ensure these students can pursue their dreams. Thank you to our members and donors who make this impact possible. Together, we aren’t just sending students to school; we are helping break cycles of poverty and building a brighter future.
