ORSI - Orthopedic Relief Services International

ORSI - Orthopedic Relief Services International ORSI is a 501c3 not-for-profit organization whose goal is to provide orthopaedic clinical, educational, and infrastructural support to areas in great need.

ORSI's mission statement is to provide humanitarian aid in the form of clinical, educational, and infrastructural support to areas in need, particularly in the field of orthopaedic surgery. Our initial project focuses on rebuilding the orthopaedic surgical capabilities of the largest and only university hospital in Haiti, Hopital de l’Universite d’Etat d’Haiti (HUEH). Orthopaedic surgical services

were challenged before the earthquake of January 2010. They were decimated afterward. The model will include initial site assessments which identify clinical and educational deficits. During this phase of project development, trust and collaborative partners are cultivated. We, therefore, will bring infrastructural support to remedy deficits noted in our assessment and create a clinical environment of functionality. Surgical teams providing clinical and educational support then follow. Ultimately, exit strategies with long-term empowerment strategies and sustainability models will be implemented. This basic approach will be applied to all ORSI projects going forward.

Last weekend, Dr. Israelski and Tom Lyon from the Foundation of Orthopedic Trauma visited Hospital Escuela in Honduras to assess how we can best support their team.
Hospital Escuela is the largest public hospital in the country and home to Honduras’ only orthopedic residency program. Despite their incredible work, their team is still using paper charts and facing limited surgical space and equipment shortages.
We’re working toward sending a surgical team later this year and continuing to build long-term support for their orthopedic department.
➡️If you’d like to be part of this effort, you can support through our website or donate directly on Facebook. Every step forward starts with small contributions from people who care🙌

At ORSI, we're a small team working hard to provide our global partners with the equipment they need for essential care. In the regions we serve, orthopedic departments are often under-resourced, making it difficult to operate as fully functioning surgical centers.
➡️ Here are some recent infrastructure and equipment donations ORSI has made to our partners around the world!

We’re excited to share that Dr. Israelski will be traveling to the largest hospital in Honduras, Hospital Escuela, to evaluate how we can best address their urgent needs. Every contribution, no matter how small, helps us provide vital resources to these communities. Your support truly makes a difference!

🌎 ORSI Updates:
We’re making great strides in expanding partnerships, strengthening educational programs, and improving supply chain systems to ensure orthopedic resources reach those who need them most.

Right now, we’re preparing to send materials to Lutsk, Ukraine, for the construction of 3,000+ tourniquets—lifesaving tools for those on the frontlines of the war.

Looking ahead, we’re hopefully planning future clinical deployments to Honduras and, when conditions allow, Haiti—while also focusing on recent domestic efforts at the Pine Ridge reservation in South Dakota.

Grateful for the collaboration that makes this work possible—more updates/details to come!

Last year, we lost someone who meant so much to ORSI—David (Kiki), Dr. Israelski’s main security guard in Haiti. Kiki was more than just security; he was family. He had a huge heart, believed in ORSI’s mission, and was dedicated to helping those in need. Tragically, he was killed in the ongoing gang violence that has taken over Haiti.

The situation in Haiti is devastating. The violence continues to escalate, leaving hospitals overwhelmed and medical care in crisis. This is why our work is more important than ever—we must support these hospitals however we can.

In honor of Kiki and the countless others affected by this turmoil, we remain committed to providing orthopedic care, equipment, and education. We also extended support to Kiki’s wife, who, like so many others, is left to pick up the pieces.

Kiki’s kindness and bravery won’t be forgotten. Let’s continue to fight for a Haiti where people like him don’t have to live in fear. ❤️

Gangs have burned down HUEH, Haiti’s largest hospital—the place where Dr. Israelski and ORSI have worked for years, training doctors and providing critical orthopedic equipment. Now, the only orthopedic residency in Port-au-Prince is in crisis, and we don’t even know if the X-rays, trauma tools, and anesthesia machines we sent have survived.
We still are trying to get equipment of out Haitian customs to the hospital in Cap-Haïtien.

It’s heartbreaking to see the healthcare system collapse like this. Any donations to ORSI will go to support Haiti.

Haiti Update: ORSI has tens of thousands of dollars worth of critical medical equipment trapped in Haitian customs, including a state-of-the-art C-arm X-ray machine that could be saving lives right now. For years, this essential equipment has sat unused while hospitals struggle without the tools they need. It's tougher than ever to send supplies, as Haiti is dealing with gang warfare and chaos, but we are doing whatever it takes to get this equipment out of customs and into operating rooms where it belongs!

Dr. Israelski and the ORSI team are hard at work on several exciting projects worldwide! We recently sent a massive shipment of fracture fixation tools, plates, and screws to Malawi and Uganda, where state hospitals urgently need orthopedic trauma equipment. We’re excited to share more about our current projects and have so much in store for 2025! We couldn’t do it without the incredible support of our partners. Stay tuned for more updates!
