We are excited to announce the return of our $40 Challenge! Taking place 29 May to 12 June, the $40 Challenge is a fundraising initiative designed to raise awareness and funds for the refugee community in Hong Kong by challenging participants to live on just HK$40 a day for food – all that most refugees in Hong Kong have for their daily meals. Through this campaign, we seek to highlight the resilience and challenges that refugees face daily, as well as to foster empathy, understanding, and action.

💪JOIN THE CHALLENGE:
1. Walk with us: For 7 days of your choice from 29 May until 12 June, live just one of the limitations that refugees face in Hong Kong by spending only $40 a day for your daily meals.

2: Fundraise: Donate the balance of what you usually spend on meals over seven days to help refugees and asylum seekers; or ask your friends to sponsor you.

3: Spread the word!

📣Join us TODAY! Visit www.ask.org.hk/40-challenge to learn more and register!

Earlier this month, the Legislative Council's new Basic Housing Units Bill came into effect. The bill aims to ensure the provision of safe and reasonable living conditions in subdivided units in residential buildings. Barred from working and relying on limited housing allowances, many people seeking asylum depend on subdivided units for shelter.
In the last year, Justice Centre supported Humanity Seekers - a refugee-led community group - to put forward submissions and take part in discussions with a member of the Legislative Council on the Basic Housing Units Bill. Through this engagement, Humanity Seekers members highlighted the need for inclusive policy that accounts for everyone living in these conditions, regardless of immigration status.

Immigration detainees, many of whom are people seeking asylum, face indefinite detainment with limited legal help and barriers to medical treatment and psychological care - leaving them in an especially vulnerable position.
Last year, we expanded our legal services to more effectively provide timely legal information to those in detention. Read about how our intervention has made a difference to people like Anne in our Impact Report.

Read Edward’s story and learn about how our Mental Health Programme help people overcome their experiences of persecution, torture and displacement, and regain a sense of agency and resilience.

From violence, persecution and family separation, to dangerous journeys and prolonged uncertainty and isolation in Hong Kong, we understand the psychological toll displacement can have on individuals.

This past year, our psychosocial services expanded to meet the increasing need, with a panel of 14 specialist counsellors providing free 1:1 therapy sessions to those struggling with trauma and ongoing stressors.
