Congratulations to this year's Grant Recipients!🌟It's a happy day when 3 organizations come together to support 11 deserving local charities!

-$HK50,000 grants will support children & youth, the elderly & women in need!🎉

Our sister organization, The AWA Foundation (AWAF) has a long standing partnership with the American Chamber of Commerce (AmCham) Hong Kong (HK) Charitable Foundation.

-Members of the AWAF's Grants Committee manage the charitable grant applications, vetting & funding recommendations process.
-AWAs Community Service volunteers also support with impactful hands-on initiatives like English enrichment & special events.

Meanwhile, both foundations work to raise funds to support as many charitable grants as possible.

AWA's Food Nomads recently enjoyed more than a great lunch. This 🫖Tea & Heritage Tour , marked its 110th Anniversary! Our members were welcomed by Helena May Chair, Sabrina Ho who warmly shared its captivating history. 🌟

Founded in 1916 (amidst WWI) by Lady Helena May, wife of the 15th Governor of Hong Kong, it was designed to provide a safe haven for single women answering ads to work in Hong Kong posted by the British Women’s Immigration Assoc.

If the walls could talk! In its early years, there was a 10 PM curfew with no men allowed upstairs. During World War II, it was occupied by the Japanese. Later, it was seized by the British Royal Air Force. It wasn't until the 1940s when it reverted back to a Women's Club!

Thanks to its dedicated members & other experts, in 1993 the building was deemed a historic monument, protecting it from demolition. Since then, ongoing historic preservation work has been underway.

Recently, celebs like Naomi Watts, Drew Barrymore & Gwyneth Paltrow have openly shared their personal “🔥 flash” journeys with the hopes of normalizing conversations about Menopause. They are sharing that “🔥flashes” are only the tip of the iceberg when it comes to symptoms.

We would like to extend our gratitude to Dr. Lily Wong, General Practitioner from The London Medical Clinic in Hong Kong, for bringing this discussion to the AWA with her two-part evidence-based presentation on a topic impacting 1 in 4 women in the work place.

Here are "5 Menopause Myth Busters," including updated facts about Hormone Therapy.

AWA's ART LOVERS GROUP❤❤❤ had a fab time at the held in the Convention Center recently! Hong Kong hosted this exhibit alongside the likes of 16 other cities including London, New York, Sydney, Stockholm, & more!

The fair's mission? To share the magic of art ownership by offering collectible works beginning at HK$1,000 in the Experimental Galleries. With prices as high as HK$100,000 in the established Blue Chip galleries, home to some amazing world- famous artists. Plus, a nonprofit gallery dedicated to underrepresented artists provided a range of public programs & fundraising activities for their outreach efforts.

Egg tarts, azulejos (beautiful blue & white tiles), the famous Fernando's Portuguese restaurant & more! This AWA local tour to Macau hit all the historic highlights too!

One AWA member said "I have been to Macau many times but I was blown away by how much I didn't know & hadn't seen." Another one said, "I'd give it 5🌟 🌟🌟🌟🌟 on Trip Advisor!" A third said, "What a great day, great guide & great value -it even included the bus!"

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to our Honorary President, Raluca Schlaefer, and her husband, David, the Deputy Consul General at the U.S. Consulate General in Hong Kong and Macau . They graciously hosted the AWA & AWA Foundation's Volunteer Leader Appreciation event, warmly welcoming our outstanding volunteers into their home. A special shout-out goes to Tracey Finch, our shiny and new AWA Membership Board Director, who organized everything with a smile and learned Canva in the process!

We are thrilled to celebrate the America250 anniversary, the AWA's 70th milestone, and the AWA Foundation's 5th year as a Section 88 charitable organization together! With so much to commemorate, stay tuned for more exciting events!
