Various striking techniques used in traditional martial arts, especially Karate. Each technique uses a different part of the hand or arm for offense or defense. Here's a breakdown of each technique and its potential power:
Top Row: Basic Fist Strikes
Tsuki (Punch)
A classic straight punch using the two large knuckles.
Power: High — leverages full body motion and hip rotation.
Tetsui (Hammer Fist)
Uses the bottom of the clenched fist like a hammer.
Power: Medium-High — excellent for close-range strikes to the collarbone or face.
Uraken (Backfist)
A snapping strike using the back of the fist.
Power: Moderate — fast, effective in close range.
Second Row: Spear Hand Techniques
Nihon Nukite (Two-Finger Spearhand)
Two extended fingers target soft areas (like the eyes or throat).
Power: Low — precision over brute force.
Yohon Nukite (Four-Finger Spearhand)
A full-hand spearhand targeting soft tissue.
Power: Moderate — requires strong fingers and good technique.
Shotei (Palm Heel Strike)
Using the base of the palm, often to the chin or nose.
Power: High — safer than a punch, very effective.
Third Row: Edge & Elbow Strikes
Hiji (Elbow Strike)
Short-range weapon using the hard point of the elbow.
Power: Very High — devastating in close combat.
Shuto (Knife Hand)
Edge of the hand (like a "karate chop").
Power: Medium-High — used for neck or wrist strikes.
Hiraken (Flat Knuckle Strike)
A punch using the flat section of the fingers just past the knuckles.
Power: Medium — useful for quick, controlled strikes.
Bottom Row: Backhand, Knuckle, and Specialized Fist
Haishu (Back Hand)
Striking with the back of the hand.
Power: Moderate — used to slap or redirect.
Koken (Wrist Strike)
Uses the bent wrist (base of the thumb side).
Power: Medium — targets soft spots, requires conditioning.
Ryutoken (Dragon Head Fist)
A rare strike with knuckles bent forward like a beak.
