The publication highlights the immense potential of diaspora philanthropy as a strategic resource for strengthening locally led development and advancing sustainable financing solutions across Africa.

For philanthropists, foundations, development practitioners, and policymakers, this is an important read on how Africa can harness one of its most powerful yet often underutilized assets: its global diaspora community.

What will it take to transform education in Africa?

The answer goes beyond building more classrooms.

At the 2024 African Philanthropy Forum Conference, philanthropy leaders, educators, and development practitioners explored how Africa can reimagine education through locally driven solutions, accelerated learning models, climate-smart curricula, and responsible use of technology.

The conversation challenged traditional approaches to development and emphasized a critical shift: moving from building for communities to building with them. Because sustainable change happens when African expertise, innovation, and leadership are at the center of the solutions.

As millions of children across the continent continue to face barriers to quality education, this discussion offers valuable insights on the role of philanthropy in driving lasting systems change.

Gender-lens philanthropy isn’t just about funding women’s program — it’s about understanding how gender shapes every aspect of access, power, and opportunity.

When philanthropy is intentionally designed with a gender lens, it can address root causes and drive systemic, lasting change.

Is gender equity at the centre of your giving strategy?

Tomorrow marks Youth Day in South Africa — a powerful reminder that young people have always been at the forefront of change on this continent.

The legacy of June 16, 1976 lives on in every young African challenging unjust systems, building community, and giving back.

The future of African philanthropy is young, bold, and locally led.

On , we reflect on the millions of children across Africa — and the world — denied their right to education, safety, and childhood.

Philanthropy has a critical role to play: funding child protection programmes, supporting access to quality education, and advocating for systems that protect every child.

Every child deserves a future free from exploitation. 🚸

Philanthropy is not something we do, but who we are.

In this conversation, Dr. Judy Dlamini challenges conventional ideas about giving, reminding us that philanthropy has always been part of the African way of life, rooted in kindness, community, and shared responsibility.

She also shares powerful insights on leadership, education as a catalyst for social change, and why empowering women and young people is critical to Africa’s future.

The African diaspora is one of the most significant — and often unrecognised — drivers of development on the continent.

Beyond remittances, diaspora communities are funding schools, health facilities, and grassroots initiatives across Africa. The opportunity now is to structure and scale this giving for even greater impact.

What role does diaspora philanthropy play in your community?

What does the future of African philanthropy look like?

A throwback to our London Next-Gen convening where we brought together a dynamic group of next-generation philanthropists for a candid conversation on legacy, leadership, and the role of young changemakers in shaping Africa’s future.

From powerful personal stories of giving and purpose to honest discussions about influence, responsibility, and impact, the convening explored what it means to lead with intention and invest in the communities we care about.

As the Next Gen Circle continues to grow, so too does a community of emerging leaders committed to advancing homegrown philanthropy across Africa.

Less than 10% of global philanthropic funding reaches African-led organisations directly.

Despite the talent, innovation, and proximity to the issues on the ground, African organisations remain under-resourced and frequently overlooked by global funders.

Closing this gap is not just about more money — it’s about trust, transparency, and shifting power.

Not every meaningful conversation happens on a stage.

Last night, in partnership with Adeleke Alex-Adedipe, Managing Partner of DOA law, we brought together a remarkable group of leaders and changemakers for an evening of conversation, connection, and possibility.

From thought-provoking discussions on leadership, philanthropy and impact to meaningful new relationships and shared visions for Africa’s future, the evening reminded us that some of the most important conversations happen in smaller rooms.

Thank you to everyone who joined us and contributed to such a memorable evening.

The future is built through relationships, and this was a powerful reminder of what becomes possible when the right people come together.
