Why should you be in Cape Town this October?

Because some conversations are worth being in the room for.

The 2026 APF Conference will bring together philanthropists, funders, business leaders, policymakers, and changemakers from across Africa and the Global South for three days of:

→ Bold conversations about the future of African philanthropy
→ New connections with leaders shaping change across the continent
→ Ideas and perspectives that challenge how we think about giving and impact
→ Partnerships and opportunities to move from ideas to action

Under the theme “Bridge the Divide; Reimagine the Future,” we are creating a space to think differently about what is possible when African philanthropy comes together.

Who is missing from philanthropy’s investment agenda?

African adolescents make up one of the continent’s largest and most promising populations, yet they continue to receive a disproportionately small share of philanthropic funding.

This article challenges us to rethink when and where we invest, arguing that adolescence is a pivotal window for shaping lifelong outcomes. It also poses an important question: if we are serious about Africa’s future, are we investing early enough—and strategically enough—in the next generation?

For funders, philanthropists, and development practitioners, this is a timely reminder that investing in adolescents is not simply about meeting today’s needs, but about unlocking tomorrow’s potential.

This year’s theme, “Strengthening Global Solidarity and Empowering Local Communities,” reminds us that humanitarian action is ultimately about people helping people.

Across communities, individuals and organizations continue to respond to crises, support those most affected, and build pathways towards recovery and resilience.

For us, strengthening global solidarity also means recognizing the leadership, knowledge, and resources that already exist within local communities. When communities are empowered to shape solutions, humanitarian action becomes more inclusive, responsive, and sustainable.

On World Humanitarian Day, we celebrate the people who show up for one another and the collective action that reminds us of the power of solidarity, compassion, and community.

Organized giving is not simply about putting structures around generosity. It is about creating the conditions for giving to become more consistent, accountable, and impactful.

Through foundations, trusts, endowments, and other structures, organized giving can strengthen the connection between those who give and the communities they support, while moving philanthropy beyond short-term fixes toward lasting solutions.

Most importantly, it can amplify impact by enabling people with different levels of resources to contribute consistently and collectively to causes that matter.

What does it take to move from commitment to action for women?

Last year, women across the APF community shared their perspectives on accelerating action for South African women and advancing gender equality. Their reflections continue to challenge us to think about the role each of us can play in creating more equitable systems and opportunities.

This August, as South Africa marks Women’s Month under the theme “Empowered Women Empower the Nation,” we revisit some of these voices.

Seventy years after more than 20,000 women marched to the Union Buildings, the call for equality, dignity and opportunity continues.

Can philanthropy build the future while still responding to today’s urgent needs?

One of the most thought-provoking ideas in African Philanthropy and the Three Horizons of Transformation is that real transformation requires us to hold three horizons at once: improving what exists today, nurturing emerging innovations, and imagining entirely new ways of creating impact.

No single person or organization can solve Africa’s challenges alone.

Lasting impact happens when we stop working alone and begin recognizing how our unique strengths complement one another.

One powerful takeaway from this conversation is that philanthropy is not about trying to do everything. It is about knowing what you bring to the table and using that expertise to contribute to a shared vision for change.
