We welcome any form of coorporation with any student organization as long as we can benefit our schoolmates' interests in the largest extent. Maybe the apparent complexity of the equations scares you, or just you can’t tolerate a subject more to study only if you regard it as a subject. This again proves that the necessity of our existence. We endeavour to turn a subject into an interest, a year o
f torture into everyday enjoyment. Bearing our theme “Mathematics is Our Life” of this year, we’ll organize a series of innovative activities and competitions in order to accomplish our goals – to establish an interest in Maths among our schoolmates. Firstly, we’d like to introduce our spotlighted event – “Maths is Around Us” Photo Competition (1/11-30/11) which is our first attempt to relate Maths to our living. Since we believe that an interest can only be established by your initiative, we require participants to discover Maths sequences and codes in nature. For example, Fibonacci sequences appear in pineapple, spiral of shells, seeds on a sunflower, etc. In order to present it in an elegant way, participant should take photos to record the clues left by nature with special photo taking techniques. Secondly, our another highlighted event – Teacher-student Mathematics Competition (15/11) will invite teachers who don’t teach Maths or Science subjects to form teams with students ranging from Form 1 to 5. One teacher will lead five students to compete with other teams. We deem that Maths can also be a bridge to link up teachers and students. Through discussions during the competition, teachers and students can understand one another better, and hence their relationship can be improved. Last but not least, Maths Club is also one of the organizers of Academic Week and Science Quiz which draws much attention every year. We strive to provide the most fruitful activities than any other academic clubs for our schoolmates. However, we aren’t here to force our schoolmates to love Maths, but continue to play our role as an interest facilitator. We hope that you can support us and participate in our activities in order to bring our club into new heights. Your support does count for us. Nicky Li 5B
