社會民生及政策事務與大眾生活息息相關，本會以關注社會事務、維護居民權益為會務宗旨，透過社會政策委員會對不同政策及社會狀況進行詳細的研究工作，期望令政策更為完善，切合社會的實際需要。
為提升政策研究水平，委員會邀請多位區議會議員、社區領袖、業界專才以及學者等參與政策研究工作，為社會建言。多年來，委員會在不同範疇進行研究，包括經濟、社會福利、教育、醫療、交通、勞工、文化藝術、政治制度、基礎建設及政府施政等，適切地反映民意民情，使政策切合市民的訴求。
